    ya read the fine print.
they just limit how much resources you can use and that will trigger based on bandwidth and other factors.

there is no such thing as unmetered.

if you go with hostgator. com i have affiliate and will split the 100.00 referral with you. pm me if interested

This is a common misconception there is such a thing as unmetered bandwidth, it just means that they don't measure how much you use but they usual have a cap say 1.5 mbps, unlimited bandwidth is the one that can't be done because noone can offer this service. also most providers that offer you these outrageous offers like 1TB of transfer for 5 dollars a month are full of it they count on you not being able to fill that quota and if you somehow do manage to do this they simply shut you down for some other reason like hogging CPU resources do your homework. you are best to go with a provider that offers realistic services check with http://www.webhostingtalk.com and look at reviews there. good luck and ALWAYS read the fineprint.

Unmetered for a lot of money usually means you have a dedicated 10mbps or 100mbps or whatever; for little money (like a $70 server) it means no-one is counting what you use, but you are sharing your bandwidth with a lot of other servers, effectively giving you maybe 10% of the actual speed in reality. Cheap Unmetered is fine for things like free image hosting, free file hosting and free hosting ; it is usually the only thing you can pay when running those.

CPU plays the main factor, Like lunar pages, they can offer you all the bandwidth, but you would never get chance to use it all.

Unmetered hosting will sometimes have more restrictions in order to provide the best service to all customers. For example we do not allow proxy as it is a resource hog and for every proxy 20 or so sites would be very slow. Unmetered is a way of getting into paid hosting, giving you a cheap alternative. In all honesty we only started doing unmetered in order to compete with other people (it's the only way we've got customers) as many people want everything for nothing, those who are willing to pay realistic prices go to the big companies (like hostgator) so it's a tough market. I remember though about 7 years ago web hosting was hard to get into unless you were financially well off. I think some people found out you could oversell and make it work, then others didn't do it right so it's made a mess of the industry.

We are about to do a promotion in our local area, hopefully this will let us expand and host at "real" prices. If you are low on money then best to go with an "unmetered" (you will find that actually there are quite a few who are fast, but most are probably slow) I was considering getting from www.heartinternet.com but they have too much restrictions. If you however can afford it, go for more "premium" hosting as it typically will be of higher quality. We intend to turn our unmetered service into what you pay for you are guaranteed to get (not oversold at all), however to do this we first need customers that are willing to pay that bit more.

We are currently including a domain with hosting if you are interested.

Sometimes they throttle the speed which is more genuine unlimited or unmetered bandwidth.

Other times ask about their fair use policy and also CPU quota on shared or VPS.
