Prepping you guys for vBulletin 4.0. Minor things like what things are called we can phase in beforehand so there is less shock later. :)

Well, "Settings" is a better name than "UserCP" imo (and it's what vB4 is going with for the usercp). Ideally I'd like to call it "Account Management", but that's a little long.

Not before they release it (so I don't know).

Would "Profile" or something hip like "The Pad" not suffice?

Things like Avatars and Signatures aren't really settings are they? - More so preferences

Profile is used for user profiles. Click the Settings link in the Navbar to see what we are talking about. :)

yes this stumped me for a few seconds, then when i hovered over it i noticed it still say usercp.php, so i knew i was still at home =)

hopefully we can see some really nice updates in 4.0, i want the ability to shoot lasers at people who post threads in the wrong section.

Well yeah, but you could argue that Settings is already used for settings & options within usercp.php. It just seems silly that vBulletin would consider a user's signature as a "setting" when it's not. IPB for example has two links: "My Profile", "My Settings".

Must DP be a sheep and follow the crowd? What would be the harm in renaming the link on vB 4.x to "User CP" ? *shrug*

There are 2 links already... "Your Profile" is under "Quick Links"... As far as UserCP vs. Settings... Settings is the better choice between UserCP and Settings imo.

I still prefer UserCP. The left sidebar still says "Your Control Panel" and I don't think subscribed threads, latest Infractions and latest reputation are "Settings".

I guess we always used to see usercp at that place.. so it is little confusing but people get used to that within few days.. :)

As long as it does what we want it to do, who cares what it's called?

I wasn't as shocked because I don't actually look at the link when I click (kinda like my hand's used to clicking that area for my UserCP & I expect that once I do I am taken to my usercp - which I was), I only noticed later while using the forum, that the name for UserCP actually changed.

I personally think Settings is a lot more fitting though. There were people somewhere saying that newbies won't be able to find it & be confused, but really, no they won't. Newbies would be confused with "UserCP", but "Settings"? Everyone gets what that is.
