I'm a big fan of archive.org - I find it useful to see how long-established competitors grew. big problem though - they still havent archived xoog.net months after launch.

i dont understand it, it usually takes about a month based on past experiences.

i know that being archived doesnt really mean much, but I'd just appreciate it so i could look at xoog in a couple of years time and think 'wow - was it really that primitive?'

that explains it. Do you need to have a significant amount of traffic to be archived? Or do they try to do nearly every site?

My site has been archived back from when it was on geocities so I don't believe you need a super popular site to get on there.

It's actually useful to go back and look at your old sites if you make a mistake somewhere down the line and compare it to stats and try and figure out when the mistake occurred. I used this to find an error I didn't realize I had made on a site a couple of years back. Yeah I have sites that have been around a very long time that I no longer work then later decide to bring back to life.
