That could happen, but even then there will be news methods to wealth creation discovered (or created) and talented writers will be needed. Also, as small businesses start feeling the crunch they'll need better marketing materials.
i think in 09 the web 2.0 hype is gonna slow down. I also think that a lot of sites that are not profitable yet and rely on advertising for porfitability (or aquisition as an exit) will shut down.
Firstly, it is a great question that raised a lot of very open honest comments. It's always great to see and read comments from all over the world...but I believe that we are not in for doomsday yet...so just keep on doing what you do...and do it better tomorrow...
In 2009, Skynet will finally take over the internet. Oh, where is John Connor when you need him? Oh, wait. He's right here: Terminator: Salvation Trailer
Agree with jasmor81, as advertising dollars will be more scrutinized, more and more managers will turn to online advertising because this is the media where you can track your spending the most and measure much more accurately ROI
i think there will be 2 streams. One, people will want to organize the internet. Make 'laws' for it. Since the crisis, and looking for more endurance (less spending..) with energy two, though the economic crisis could create downward in paying money for songs and films. Because some people will lose their jobs they will be looking for new ones, using internet? and others keeping their jobs will work harder to keep it because the risk the same: losing their jobs. so they will be less at the internet. so it would stay around equal..
I can see social networking expanding even more, and more smaller networks appearing across the map... i also think there'll be a lot more apps on sites like facebook along with a greater adaption of ajax in a lot of sites...
As the crisis will go on and hit more parts of the world (into Asia, more countries in Europe) more people will losing their jobs and get online searching for jobs/work. Companies will grow broke and people cannot start companies easily meaning there will be *less* competition for all of us. Well, not 'for us' as on DP everyone tries to start things for $0, so the competition here will rise, but real businesses will see less competition because people cannot enter them for lack of money. So for instance, if you start a business in 2009 which requires $50k+ start up costs, you'll less likely run into competition than in 2006 etc. Not only because people don't have that cash but also because they don't dare to take the risk as they might need that money to pay for mortgage/rent/food etc in the coming years (experts expect the US crisis to last to 2012 and other countries are behind the US, so it will be a good while yet before it goes ok). So great times ahead; I think I'll make the most money I ever did in 2009; crisis is the best time to start companies and grow them; people cost nothing, goods are cheap and no-one dares to get up in your face
My business start up costs was $200/month or about $2,000/year. Now with 2009 it has grown quite bit now I"m up to $3,500 for this year, unless it grows more rapidly I'll have to get more servers.. I know some of those with like 1K alexa site there costs are like $20K a month or something.
I think the internet will be more and more saturated, there will be more competition with less earnings because it's going to be more difficult to make sales (affiliate marketing)
I will create the next big (legal and working) online money making method and become a millionaire! Hopefully...
But do you have experience with that yourself? Because we see it only going; the worse the economy, the more we are selling in affiliate marketing. Because, yes, there will be more competition, but by far most competition is not competition but people who could not do aff marketing if their life depended on it. And most will never learn either. So personally I cannot see this ; internet will get busier which is a *good* thing; more people to buy stuff And some of them will try to make money on internet and fail as they don't have the patience, time, money or skills involved. Edit: as I said before; I don't think 2009 will end the crisis; it'll go on for a few years, meaning starting large operations won't be an option for most.
Kwaku, I do agree with it, I told about 10+ people about aff marketing and only one do it, I would even say trying, not doing. With more people coming into interwebs it doesn't mean more affiliate marketers. And without me that person even never knows about this affiliate games. I don't agree with coming competitors, but I expect more and more companies will come into internet and even more affiliate programs will be.
My experience (more than 5 years into affiliate marketing) is that there has been more and more competition since my beginings and 2008 has been a bit tough (more and more work to maintain the same amount of sales)
Great feedback. I definitely agree with some here that 2009 is going to bring more competition among us Internet Marketers.
I think it is going to get over saturated for awhile. Then people will start realizing that they need more spefic information and yes niche sites will become the top brands as well as blogs
