Where to start?

    I have a new site and I am looking to market it online for free.

    What is the best way to start driving traffic to my site?

    If this is a new site, the first thing you need to do is start building backlinks. Make sure you use the right keywords in your backlinks so google knows "what" your site is about. Using your forum signature is one of the easiest ways to build backlinks.

    Work on the basics before getting bombarded with too much mumbo jumbo.

    1) Submit your site to search engines
    2) Make sure your basic SEo is done - title tags, etc.
    3) Install Google Analytics
    4) Social bookmark your website

    Once you got this covered, start with your PPC campaigns, Backlink building, etc.

    Don't submit your website to search engines. All search engines will find your website by themselves when you start the link development. Those that don't are a waste of your time anyway.

    1) People can subscribe to your RSS feeds with various RSS readers.
    2) People can use your RSS feeds to publish on their own websites.
    3) RSS directories act as a proxy between your RSS feeds and people who would like to use them.

    In order for this to work you need:

    1) Quality content
    2) RSS feeds in correct format

    PS: Spammers will love you for your scrapable content.

    Yep, get the on-page SEO done first before you really market it. If you can't do this, you should be able to get someone to do it for very cheap. I'd recommend reading up on it on your own though that way you can do it for other sites you may want to start up.

    From there, start link building. This can be done using several methods. The following is in no particular order of importance.

    1: Directory Submission
    2: Article Marketing
    3: Blog Commenting
    4: Social Bookmarking
    5: Continue to socialize with those in your niche to build relationships and hopefully traffic.

    yahoo ans, video post,rss feed,do follow social bookmarking,related blog comment,article submission in article directories,on page and off page SEO,pree release works wonder for a new site.
