Where to start with SEO?

Fantastic forum you gents have here, there is a wealth of information. I am a bit overwhelmed and interested in where I should start? (on page optimization, off page optimization, link building etc). Does the 80/20 rule apply to seo? Should I focus 80% of my resources on one key area? If so which is that? Appreciate any advice you can provide, thankyou.

All I did was start getting backlinks, some natural and some through blog commenting. Keep producing decent content for your site and other people will get you some backlinks over time by posting your link elsewhere. Add yourself to direcotries is always a good start too and get some backlinks on social bookmark sites.

Definitely agree with this. Good content, submitting your site to many web directories and social bookmarking sites is a good start.

SEO is a combination of on-page and off-page seo methods. You can start learning the on-page seo first since it's easier to learn and practice. there are many methods of off-page and new methods coming everyday. you need more experience to learn about it. just remember that doing SEOs take times.

Remember the content on your site aswell. Before you start any off page (links) and on page (content) do your SEO research. Find and choose your keywords to target, get some quick links and write some articles as well.

Without any doubt you have to start with on page. Do keyword analysis, competitor backlinks and try to land up on the prior keywords for your site. Suitable place these keywords in the url, title, heading tags and other anchor text. Work on 3 to 5 keywords per page and the rest on other pages respectively.

Start with submitting the sitemap and site to the search engines and to the webmaster tools. Follow all other SEO strategies as mentioned in this forum

    Hi,

I would like to recommend you to start your SEO jobs from a thorough niche relative keyword research and niche relative competition analyzing and generating a list of effective for SEO campaigns.

In my own experiences, 80/20 rule would also apply to backlinking strategies as you need to use 80% of your main targeted keywords as anchor text.

    all the best,

I would suggest spending most of your time & energy on your site. Pick up quality of content, study link bait, and experiment, experiment, experiment.

Sure self-service back links can be helpful and influential but nothing is better than getting a slew of good fresh natural links coming in too.

You have to deal with both on page and off page, concentrate on your most important keyword and build links.

First step is keyword research and analyzing the targeted audience, then One page activities like keyword research, meta tags, alt tags etc and then off page activities....

In my opinion , first go for onsite SEO , then offsite. Do a keyword research on with Google adword – and find the relevant keyword for your site. Then do link your site with quality backlinks.
