I'm also trying to find good places to sell developed sites www.namepros.com - it's not bad, i usually get quite a few interested buyers when i sell sites www.sitepoint.com - it's not bad but a bit better than NamePros but i don't like the fact that i have to pay to sell my site www.dnforum.com - don't have a membership but i'm very interested in trying that place. I'm pretty sure that's where the big guys hang out because you need to pay to become a member at www.dnforum.com and that usually attracts the big guys to come and join www.digitalpoint.com - only tried listing one site at DP, no offers yet I'll see how it goes.. Anyone know any more forums where i can sell my sites?
I have been thinking the same thing, I have posted some sites for sale at yaxay.com but not many views or interest. Sitepoint was better when they did not charge. But I might give them a whirl. jg123
www.sitepoint.com Great e-com forum, that has special sales room. Just post your offer in there. Good luck!
The yardstick seems to be 12 months of earnings - though I think that´s pretty loose and a good name, developed website, PR, traffic and potential must all be considered. I have only sold one site before and that was here on DP. It was an interesting excercise and I´ve since become a bit addicted to trawling round the domains for sale forums just to see what is on sale and how much they get. If I had money to spare I´d be interested in picking up a few of the sites I´ve seen at the lower end of the market and selling them on in a couple of months - for fun more than profit (how sad is that?). It´s a bit like gambling, I suppose.
Yeah ... SitePoint has really dropped off since they introduced the fee to sell a site. DNforum is probably the best of the lot now IMO, although I have been impressed with DP. You could also try bizbuysell.com ... seems to getplenty of action.
You can earn big bucks if you do it right... I got a site a few months ago for about $700, and sold it last week for $1700
fry- I find ebay the best place to sell AND buy. Anymore if I post a site for sale on forums all the newbies and posers come out of the woodwork to ask stupid questions or crap on your sale.
The bigger question I always have is if a site is earning money, why sell it? My guess is you will rarely get what it is worth (to you that is). At $500/mo. your asking price is close to 2 times annual revs, which is pretty steep in todays world. Why don't you keep the site and keep earning, or up the revs? I guess unless someone offers millions, why seel a site that makes $6k/yr for that or even twice that? What do you really gain?
fryman, have you ever tried webhostingtalk.com? i can't vouch for it as i have not used it to buy or sell sites but it is a very busy site with huge advertising forums.
In my experience I get more out of making new things then maintaining old. I have tons of sites right now I am hanging onto that are totally automated or not updated and the only reason I have them is because they make money. I would love to sell them and be rid of them.
Yeah.. sometimes you just lose momentum on a project, and don't feel like messing with it anymore. Or, if you need to buy something and it can't wait 12 months for the income to come around Josh
NP- Seems fair to sell $50-$1k sites DNF- Seems best for sites $500-$xxx,xxx (i have seen the $xxx, xxxx deals made) SP-Sucks since they charged to post a sale...why bother with that crap? Here- Haven't been here long enough to judge but my first impression is that there are not a lot of buyers. WHT-Have not used them to sell a domain but worth a try Domainstate- I hate their layout and place seems riddled with fraud. Yaxay- Forget it you won't sell there anything of real value Ebay- Sometimes you get lucky but in general you are just giving ebay fees and the place is cluttered with crappy turnkeys and scams Some of us like fryman are constantly building and buying and selling. So if we have a domain we can get 12x monthly revenue from on a sale we do it. I can take the money and place it on something new. A site making $50 a month doesn't pay the bills but if you sell it for $400-$600 that's a paycheck for the week. The key is to have many sites in your portfolio and always have something you can flip fast. I don't view 20 sites making $50 each a month a big income..that's $1000 a month. I view the 20 sites as sellable for $6-10k. So do I keep 20 sites and make 1k a month for a year ($12k) or do I sell..pocket 6-10k and then spend my time making 20 more sites. I can make 20 sites in 2 month easy. Now you might ask why not have 100 sites that make $50 each a month...well as 1 person you can only do so much. Eventually sites suffer because you are not paying attention. You might end up with 50 sites making $20 each a month. Anyways this is my philosophy. I try to cross post where I think the site may sell.
Well.. for me, sitepoint pulled in a bid that was $100 higher than the current bid here at DP. So, I think its probably worth the $10. Josh
I sold a site for $x,xxx here at DP, sitepoint still has a few people with large budgets ready to do cash deals they just watch more than post though so if you have a decent site its still worth posting there, I also bought a site for $x,xxx at sitepoint.
