Ok i have a software called "no install lan chat" that is available here: http://www.download.com/No-Install-Lan-Chat/3000-2150_4-10751273.html?tag=lst-0-1 It's already had 153 downloads within a few days with no promotion. I want it to have 1000's of downloads,so what websites are there where I can list my free lan chatting software? I know download.com has a PPC program,but it's too expensive.
Try on myspace or facebook, tons of people will probably want this if they work in a computer environment. How are you making money if the program is free though?
Since it is freeware, there are a bunch of freeware download sites that probably accept submissions like this. I don't have any specific ones in mind but I would just Google "freeware downloads" and go from there.
There are many websites that will link to you and help you promote your freeware. just do a search about freeware and you will find plenty of websites to submit it!
I see that it is java based; open source it. I am running a mac at the moment so I am not able to test it.
Also you could get the word out by joining forums about freeware/software/sharware. And announce that you've launched your freeware. You will be getting some traffic/downloads this way. It will be good for the beginning. After few thousands downloads it will be easier to make it popular by word of mouth.
