Where to hire freelance web designers?

Wow, I have no idea where to post this thread, hope this is the correct board.

I have an idea in my mind and want to have a website built. I need everything, from the coding to the layout, design, banners, etc. Not just looking for raw code but for a complete website ready to go live.

I posted at Scriptlance but that place seems to be going downhill and I have only received spam by all kind of crappy indian companies. Elance is too expensive. Any other good sites where I could find someone to do this project?

I'd rather go to a place where there are more freelancers to choose from

oh alright, just trying to help them out since it's new (check out the web page contests though - some very nice work!) Try sitepoint then... http://www.sitepoint.com

btw, you could run a quick looksee at gfx, a few days for concepts and end without a winner if you don't like what you see but I've seen some great work there.

Nah, sitepoint sucks, it is full of scammers and they want to charge you for everything and give nothing back. Horrible place.

Looking for someone with actual experience on hiring freelancers so they can give me tips, not just random sites.

Sorry, they weren't just random sites though - I use both and participate in logo design contests on both (never scammed anyone though :( )

I just know a few choice designers on both sites that do great work and was trying to help.

    Good luck though,

Thanks, but as you can see in my original post I am looking for a complete site, not a logo or a design

I know, I read it. But you can get coded stuff too - you just have to pay more :p (lol, just wanted you to know I can read)

Sometimes though for really awsome designs - if you do end up going the contest route, or even if not, get a designer to do the graphics and offer a separate contest for code - not all great coders are great designers and lots of great designers can't code.

I could offer you a few names if you are at all interested (I don't do websites anymore because I can't code well) Also, at gfx you can run a private contest and only invite the designers you want to see so you don't have to look at crap.

Besides, what the heck, it costs you 10 bucks or something and that's the most you loose if you don't like what you see

Anyway, u keep talking, I keep talking back (telling you what you aren't looking for no less) so I'll shut up now, unless you want those designer names.

Yeah, you are right, if I don't get any bids at scriptlance I'll cancel it and post a separate contest for each

I'd rather stick to that place since I have a rating of 15, not many people have it so I do get good bids every now and then

    Fryman,

I use this guy at www.ayesolutions.org
He has built all of my sites. He is an expert with databases and setting up payment gateways. But is very good with layouts and design. Also, does not charge an arm and a leg to do it either! Also accepts Paypal. Will get you to look at the finished product before you pay! Now that's a pretty good deal!

I am surprised of getafreelancer. I posted the project there and already have lots of bids to analyze. The one at scriptlance has received one lousy bid

I guess I'll have to start building a rep over there and ditch that crappy scriplance site

I second getafreelancer. Hands down the best place to outsource that I have found. I always get a lot of bids, and there are a lot of professional freelancers that do quality qork on there.

These sites could help you on your way finding what you need:

    http://www.rentacoder.com
    http://www.scriptlance.com
    http://www.codelance.com
    http://www.getafreelancer.com
    http://www.hireacoder.com
    http://www.programmingbids.com
    http://www.cityitjobs.net
    http://www.GetACoder.com
    http://www.guru.com
    http://www.Project4Hire.com
    http://www.elance.com

If anyone know any affordable freelancers in the field of custom programming and coding please let me know.
I recently informed through a company what their cost expectation was and it was quite high. The company in question was very qualified in my opinion but very expensive as well.

    I'm looking for other options.

    @Fryman

Indian Companies can deliver quality work. You just need to find a trustworthy company that can deliver what they say they can.
Regarding costs this can be quite attractive.

GetaFreelancer is probably a good one. The only design work I've contracted out has been through people I found at www.TalkFreelance.com. You can go the contest route there, or just browse their work / portfolios. I'm looking for someone for a few sites too, and have been having a heck of a time finding someone I can trust (just overprotective about contracting things out business-wise). So I'd love to find a few more places to check out as well. :)
