http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/new is the right place for you to seek what you need, and they still update commercial modules, plugins, components. Or you can pay for a commercial template membership, then you can download their extensions!
No, Joomla did not delete all the commercial components from the extension directory. It was about the licensing of components, modules and plugins. Being commercial had nothing to do with it. There are dozens and dozens of commercial component, modules and plugins listed at the Joomla Extensions directory.
