I hear that Chat rooms are great for boosting your presence, but haven't located any great places to hit up chat rooms.

Where does everyone go for that?

(a place for marketers, web owners and small busineses.)

ICQ has some online chat rooms.
However I don't think you will get a lot of traffic before being banned for spamming.

Why would anyone want to use Chat Rooms to "spam" your site? Number 1 its untargeted traffic and number 1its a "stupid" marketing method.

Way back a friend of mine posted his link (okay, spammed it) in the old MSN chat rooms. Got around 8000 visitors and 150 or so people register on his forum in about over an hour. Worth it for about 10 mins of work (Register, join group, go to chatroom and paste).

But then again I wouldn't recommend it because it might just give you a bad impression and one of the last things you want is a bad reputation for spamming .

I offer an open conference room for members of my programs, where they can meet, chat, and share ideas. This is a great form of masterminding and growing.

from experiance, i tried chat room advertising.. just like log in and talk with people and ask them to look at your site friendly. But didnt bring any positive results just waste of time. Spamming on chat rooms will simply ruin your name..... But i think talking to indivituals random people and telling them about your product might work sometime... although it haven't for me so far...

The problem with chat rooms is there are way to many rooms. Efnet and Undernet (what I consider the 2 biggest hosts) regularly have more than 25000 rooms in them each at any given time with 90% of the rooms having 3 people in them or less. Going into an established room may get you banned if you go in and just paste your link. Start your own room and paste your site in the header for the room may work but its hard to know how people will find it which defeats the purpose.

If you are really want to do chat rooms, you need to approach them like message boards. Get established, make friends and not be pushy. After some time, you could start your own room, the friends will follow and they bring more friends. Great theory (worked 15 years ago when I ran a chat room) but I don't know how well it would work now.
