    ...plus GAF & SL
And of course you can also check the contest forums.

Are there any good freelancers on this forum? Especially, located in Northern California.

well i posted something on sl the first time today and feel like beeing in retard heaven. i guess their toolset is just based on paint. on the other hand 99designs seems to have quite decent quality. but people pay there for a logo $200+. i can hardly belive someone spends on a logo more than 4h and for 50/h i guess i can almost go to someone local in the real world. also i'm looking for print design and someone doing a sweet logo has probably zero skills in print layouting.

There are good designers on GAF and SL too, but they are hard to spot and also the majority of the designers is of - to say at least - average level as you have mentioned.

There's no comparison between paying $200 for a logo contest prize and receiving 20+ designs to select from and selecting a local vendor who will usually provide 3-5 concepts at most.

For a non-design person it can be hard to believe, but the logo design experts DO spend more than 4 hours on logo design. It's the whole process which involves much more than the (final) drawing stage.
