    If your looking to register a name...use godaddy.com and a promotional code (https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/2013-godaddy-discount-codes-thread.2617816/page-59) . U can get a ".com" for $1 - $2. Just find the code.

As far as hosting, I've never used godaddy's hosting before, but I mostly hear bad things from it. Any hosting company that doesn't have online chat support seems a little absurd to me (if that's still the case).

Go w/ HostGator.com and search for some promo codes. I think you can get it for around $5 or so a month (can't remember).

I'd have to disagree. Go cheap. Plans change, and you can always upgrade your hosting later on if need be. No point in sinking money right out of the gate.

I have my domain and hosting with totalchoice hosting. While it's not what I expected and I'm not happy about this (it doesn't mean they're not good, it's just not what I expected), their customer support is absolutely excellent. I've had to contact them 3 times so far, each time my ticket was replied to within 30 minutes and my problem was resolved.

The price is right, the service is good. I would recommend it.

I would have to disagree on your disagreement ;) Leaving domains aside and talking solely about hosting. Cheap might be great for some small, personal project but businesses require more and in hosting you mostly get what you pay for. Not saying that everything cheap is low quality but most of it is, and finding the cheap gem in the dust requires more research that just going around asking for the best and cheapest host. The same thing you've heard about GD are twice as strong for HG and recently mostly their spammy affiliates and paid review sites are bringing them business.

Just because one is a novice does not mean that they should solely rely on the opinion of others. There is a plethora of very good hosts who are not that large companies and can easily apply a personal touch and attention to each clients' project. They can be easily reached and often they give you a bang for your buck. I've seen too many "businessmen" who have huge plans for their future but don't value their business enough to pay more than a couple of bucks for hosting that business. People like that are indeed better off with low quality hosts because this is the only way they learn and don't repeat the same mistake (well, ok, some of them do that a few times but even they eventually learn).

If you are more inclined to get quality and then take that and add the budget factor then you can first start your search in less affiliate-friendly forums like WebHostingTalk. Most of them have an Offers section where you can see which hosts will fit your requirements resource-wise and price-wise. Once you have your shortlist make sure to test their support too and visit them in Live Chat to see how reachable and knowledgeable they are. Even if you think you will never need support you most probably will and you have to know that if the occasion arises they will be there and ready for help.

Hope this sheds a little light.

You can buy cheap domains from namecheap and if you are looking to register multiple domains, sign up with resellerclub domain reseller plan, it is really cheap.

ResellerClub regularly runs promos on domains making them available for pretty cheap. And for hosting you should definitely try Hostgator.
