I loved Florida & San Fransisco. One day I'm going to hire a big ole' American camper van and drive all over America with nothing but the wind in my hair..... But my First stop: AC's house armed with Britney spears, Bee Gee's and Michael Jackson CD's...
DreamShop said the keywords in her post = TIME & MONEY If you don't have money you won't have the time either, so stay home if you don't have a Gold Card with 50 Grand on it.
I used to live in San Fran but San Diego is moe bedder. Especially now that I have a place right at the beach. Nothing beats it. Yeh it is expensive here but so what ...
Not true Anthony!!! Aside from air costs, everything else is negotiable. Seriously. When I did my 3 month road trip extravaganza I lived on less then $500 a month. You can sublet your home (or do a home trade), you can sleep in rented vehicles, if you meet people online many of them will offer a place to stay, great food can be had at grocery stores and small markets (restaurants are expensive), you can do ride shares, yadda yadda yadda.... Were there is a will there's a way! If you've never heard of www.Craigslist.com then check it out. It covers most major cities and barter/share is the life force behind it. You find people willing to do home or ride shares, sublets, etc. YOu can also offer up barter services. I've traded seo work for tons of things. I even found my attorney that way. Sometimes people even give away stuff for free. ~Kat PS: Sitetutor...I'm convinced you weren't hanging out with the right people when you lived in SF. Did you never go to the secret beer garden in Muir Woods?
DreamShop, I am talking about folks from Europe that come here for a month or so, not you jumping in your van. I hate sleeping in the front seat of a pickup truck, I have done it many times to get out of paying 60 bucks to get 8 hours of sleep, but it sure is not my idea of the good life. PS: I would rather have the Gold card with 50 grand on it versus roughing it
Did you ever watch 'Cops Cars & Superstars' on Bravo? It's about the yearly Bull Run from LA to Miami in 7 days. We're hoping to have a souped up stretched London black cab shipped over and participate. It a wicked gig.
LOL I think you missed my point Anthony....Once someone arrives in the states the possibilities are endless, or vice versa. Haven't you ever heard of backpackers? Sure it'd all be our dream to have the Gold card (although I wouldn't want to pay the bills), but if you don't it doesn't mean you can't have an awesome time. You just have to be creative. By the way...what in the world were you doing sleeping in the front seat of a truck??? Throw some foam in the back, and you've got yourself a full size bed.
You can sleep in the back of a truck or van Dreamshop, but I like to take my bed from home with me in that case. Funny thing that you mention that, I once had to make a delivery to a customer 500 miles from home so I stuck the mattress on top of the boxes in my van and slept about 6 inches from the roof of the van on top of the freight PS: DreamShop, I know all about roughing it, but when misquitos are biting you while you sleep you really don't want to live too many days like that sweet.
Countdown commences for my jaunt around the East coast! Starting off in Boston, ending up in New York via Philly, Chicago, DC, and wherever else I end up!!
Daytona Beach is great and so is Ft. Lauderdale, FL TOOT just wants you to visit San Diego, he is right, San Diego is great man, but so is the East Coast of Florida WW
TOPS is right about that, there were so many Brit's in Orlando last time I was there than one could believe. Plus there are more Germans in Miami than any city outside of Germany, hard to believe but so true.
Thx all We spent a ton of time last year in NYC, Boston, Rochester NY, CT and Niagara and this year we're back seeing friends & family... A couple of days in NYC, a week in Norfolk VA and another week in CT. Does anyone know of any good places we should go to whilst we're in VA? And should we swing up to Maine whilst we're in CT? What's Mystic, CT like? The Mrs wants to go there...
I've only been to NYC in the heat of the summer, but Xmas there will be good. And how far away is DC from Norfolk, Virginia? If it's not too far that'll be a very good idea... I suppose I have to see the Whitehouse.... anything else there? cheers Kassi
Yeah, an oldie but a goodie... I mean, why waste space starting a new post when I can append to this one? Yeah, Costa Rica one day, after we've knocked on the door of the offices across from the Coronado... I haven't forgotten But the Mrs has got it planned as far as being in NYC, VA and CT is concerned, I just wanna know what goes on in these places so I can find some good stuff to do... and being a Brit I'm open to suggestions for good pubs, historic sites, walks, activities etc
