Where should I upload my images for better SEO?

Does it matter if I upload my pics on a image host or directly on my sites ? Speaking from a SEO point of view.
Of course the all the pics I post on my sites have alt and title but they are hosted elsewhere from the lack of space on my own host.

Why do you think picasa is better from an SEO standpoint?

There is not a whole lot to it, read more on SEO for images.. Otherwise if you upload to your site, you can build up your images on images.google.com and possibly drum up some traffic. As long as you use good keywords you should be good to go.

If you'll use image hosting services, I suggest you use any of the following image hosting site:

    flickr.com
    photobucket.com
    imageshack.us

I have read on here that Google has a bias towards preferring their own products (of which Picasa is one) when it comes to SEO - Blogspot blogs get good ranking etc. Not sure if that was ever confirmed or if it works that way with images though.

Just host it in your domain. It will not only display your image on serp, also will display your site(image source).

There is no SEO value in having them anywhere but your own domain.

Creat a uploads or images directly on your host, upload images there and make sure that images have their names but not like 254.jpg or image1.jpg. And add alt tag to each image.
If you upload to another host, then while that host is down, your site images would not be loaded.

Only put them on your own domain, that way you can control things like the image path, and the image name. your_keyphrase.png is /way/ better than AB0123412315.png

upload them on your own domain for best ranking results in Google Images and make sure the name is relevant and you have alt tags.

Heck. I just uploaded a bunch of new images to my copywriting service site. I have all my alt tags nicely keyworded, but the actual picture names aren't keyworded at all.

It'll be painful to go back and rename all those photos, but it's apparently a smart thing to do.

It can help with your SEO efforts by naming images with their appropriate keywords. Make sure that you aren't naming unrelated images with keywords that don't have anything to do with the image. If google ever does a hand review of your site and they find that they can de-list your site for spamming the pages.

It doesnt make a big difference how ever I would prefer to use my own domain and hosting. You will never get problems with images that suddenly are deleted or just gone due what reason. Same with downtime, when your server is down your site isnt availably but when the image host is down you got a site without images!
