yea, internet world is full of tutorials, use google. But if you want to learn in qualitative environment, I suggest lynda.com but it's not free.

In the UK, your borough should provide cheap/free courses for such things

I think you should try videos first because if you used ebooks or article then you can't understand anything because Flash is completely practical in basics so you should search for basic free video www(dot)learnflash(dot)com or you can also search on youtube(dot)com as these are the most accurate and easy sources that I found till yet and believe me I have learned complete animations from www(dot)learnflash(dot)com and I found this one of the best teaching sites.

This site is where I learned how to use the timeline in flash
and learn all the basics of flash (even how to design an entire flash website)
    maclab(dot)guhsd(dot)net
    (free video tutorials)

And as you get better you can learn a whole lot from
    gotoandlearn(dot)com
    (free video tutorials as well)

Also a good book on learning ActionScript 3
    Essential Actionscript
    amazon(dot)com/Essential-ActionScript-3-0-Colin-Moock/dp/0596526946
(cost $35 but well worth it)

I am a flash developer that utilized these three resources and my newest flash template is here.

    Hi loseph james,
Just start with basics like how to draw a picture and animate frame by frame.
    Then you can learn scripting.

'Help' in flash is the best to learn. Self learning is the best learning and i am sure, you will enjoy a lot.

I find the structural courses from TotalTraining and lynda.com to be the most helpful, though may cost a lot.
An alternative way is to obtain a thorough book and follow through.

Set yourself goals (like: I need to make my logo morphing ino a...) and use google when you get stuck. Of ourse the goals should be rising in complexity in time. So would be your questions and skills.

    maybe start from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/actionscript/
and then google it for more middle/advanced tutorial like http://flash.tutsplus.com/?

but if u prefer book, i recommended Learning ActionScript 3.0 A Beginners Guide by OReilly Jan.2008 (easy to learn both flash/AS 3.0)or if u want to learn ActionScript only, i recommended Actionscript 3.0 Bible.
