Where should I put my marketing dollars? Adswords doesnt seem right for me..

I own a financial site and spent tens of thousands of dollars on adwords and hired a professional adwords pro to manage the account. The returns I am getting are crap and am looking for a new large source of legitimate traffic that converts. If anyone knows exact sites for good traffic that can produce high returns for me let me know..Thanks

This is how I would go about advertising:

    Step 1:

Write informative articles focusing on the topic of your niche market. You can write these yourself or hire a ghost writer(look on Elance.com) or sites like these. You can easily find someone that will cost $5-10 an article. It is a proven fact that article marketing produces leads that convert up to 10 times better than leads from other sources. Just remember to do some keyword research and include the keywords in your title so that your articles get found on the search engine traffic. Submit your articles to Ezine Articles and some the other major article directories as well.

    Step 2:

Find related forums to your specific niche and post up to 20 times a day. Make sure that you make very informative and helpful posts. You can also outsource if it takes too much of your time. You will establish your credibility online and people who like your posts will click on your signature link through to your web site.

    Step 3:

    3) Find very high quality newsletters
related to your niche market and place solo adverts in them. Just make sure that you track and test everything for conversion.

PS. Do not forget these important marketing fundamentals.

    1) Send all your traffic to your squeeze page(if a visitor leaves your web site and you are not doing this then that probably will be the last time that they will see your website and you will be wasting a lot of money advertising)

    2) Build a relationship with your subscriber. Offer a valuable report and a free 5 day course. You need to give before you can receive.

    3) You need to become very good with email marketing to succeed. Send newsletters, promotional emails, feedback emails and gifts. Always keep your subscriber on their toes. If your emails are boring then they will unsubscribe.

    Hope that helps.

    Mark,

That is exactly what I would do. The only thing I
would add is send out a press release at least once
a week. Using Prweb. This will set you back $70 a week, but money well spent.

Affilliateking, if it was that bad, it usually means the ads weren't very good, the site itself isn't, or both.

Google ads are a great way to test to see if your site can convert, while at the same time honing your selling skills in creating ads that can convert before moving up to more expensive ads.

If you can't get traffic from Google ads to buy, the chances are very good that it will be the same with other ads.

Or you could try buying ads from related sites like fool.com maybe?

However, spending "tens of thousands of dollars" on a campaign without getting a decent return I have trouble believing you.

well my advice would to be lower your product price from 49.95 to something cheaper. and as a tip, end it in 7. example: $7 or $17

and i also think that spending that kind of money on that type of site was insane. theres no way you could of profited. maybe keeping the budget low at first then whilst its making profit, slowly increase it until your making the maximum profit you can.

I always am a big fan of the good ole' classifed ad in the paper. I use them combined with the above principals mentioned (squeeze, free reports) and get killer responses. In your case, find a targeted magazine or newspaper and buy a space giving away the free report. Jeff Paul and Dan Kennedy have made millions from this....me I've made hundreds from dirt cheap $17 classifieds in local papers in and around the Pittsburgh area.

Hope this helps, maybe gives you something differnet to think about.
