Where should I point the PR8 link?

I am going to buy a PR8 subpage link from a PR9 homepage site by today.

The site I am buying from is totally unrelated (Web Development) to my site: howtobefunny.net

The reasons for buying were to increase the PR from 4 to 6 and to improve the ranking (the home page PR9 has about a million backlinks). It has about 7 outbound links to external sites and mine will be the 8th.

Now, should I point the link saying "Learn how to be funny, witty and interesting" to

    howtobefunny.net
    or
    howtobefunny.net/learn-how-to-be-funny-witty-interesting-main.htm

Both of the above links are PR4 and have the EXACT same content.

Will the second page rank better for the search terms since it is contained in the filename?

Or, should I take the idea off and use just one home page, index.htm?

    Thanks in advance.
    Stan.

I would just point that link to your home page. Let the PR trickle down. :)

Why do you have two pages with the same content? That's not a good thing for search engines.

Yea, I guess. I just check site stats. Only a very few people have actually entered through the -main.htm page. But, this could be because all the external links point to my index.htm.

But, now, I am figuring, if I point the PR8 link to the -main.htm, maybe it'll come up in search results more often?

If I had a PR 8 link I would point it at my sitemap, or root url

Well, mine is a very small site. Its just one page actually. Very little content on the other pages. So, by root url, you mean just howtobefunny.net right?

Thanks for the PM, I honestly think you could be using those funds for better means of promotion, but hopefully this will help you achieve the rankings that you want

With that much money, I can run PPC campaigns, but I am tired of all of them bringing useless traffic (no conversion), etc. Once I get a PR6 (my links page already is PR5), my links page will also get to PR6. Then, I will start high PR linking and slowly sustain PR6 before giving up the PR8. That may take a year, but I guess that will be worth it.

Any advice on the main question would also be appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Stan.

Any reasons why the keyword-filled subpage where all the other pages link to too might not be a good entry link?

If, I'm not mistaken then the site that he is buying from is yahoo. It's pretty obvious since there are only a handful of PR9 sites. However, I may be wrong.

Anyways if you do decide to buy it, you should buy it for howtobefunny.net

Okay, but why? Isn't keyword in url helpful? Esp. when it is linked to from such a high PR site?

EDIT: No, it isn't yahoo directory.

Point the link where you like - it won't pass PR. Even if it does what is a higher PR going to do for you? PR means nothing at all.

Well, I had to create two copies of my main sales page to help CB and PDC affiliates howtobefunny.net/affiliate.htm such that when someone clicks on their affiliate link, they get transferred to the sales page containing only their mode of payment processor so they don't lose money. So, there I figured, if I added a similar page with all the keywords but with all 3 payment processors, it might help my page ranking. But, I have never made the effort to get links to point there. I guess I will start now to see what happens.

    Thanks everyone anyway.

I would advise you to point to index.htm as Search engines always search for a index of a website

From index.html then you can link to the other page
