Where Should I be Spending My Time?

Hi,
I'm quite new to the whole blogging phenomenon and really enjoying but I'm a bit unsure how to use my time. Should I be putting more time into the content I write or should I spend more time of marketing? Should I spend more time on the design of the website?

I'm sure there would be more things I could be doing but I'm just a little lost. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Design is pretty much taken care of with a lot of cheap or free bloggin templates available.

I would say, spend 80% on content, 20% marketing

contents will be the seeds to boost the marketing and visitor engagement later.

 

If you don't have enough content, marketing it will be useless.

I'd agree that content is key but it's only key if people are looking at the content. Link to your content from Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, StumbleUpon and others and slowly build up a reader base too. Again, you need to have a minimum number of articles before you can really go out marketing but at the same time, it's not like traffic just going to show up at your doorstep if you keep writing. I'd say 60 -40 after you have and are able to put up an article every couple of days or a week. Drop me a PM if you have any other specific questions as we LOVE WordPress and blogging too.

 

Here is a good example - the food niche a niche that many cant crack and if you google pinch of yum or oh my veggies both of those sites make a lot of money per month and they have never done any marketing. They just blog and add their posts to social media channels. Thats it!

In a real word and if you want to have success quickly you need to be blogging unique high quality content daily, sharing it on social media and building uip your social media following. This is easily a 2 day a week job. Then if you have more time then great look at more marketing - video marketing is a good starting point, building a mailing list, working on further seo and such like.

Your starting target should be bringing in 1000 visitors a day to your blog with a $20 RPM and then building it from there.

 

You'll definitely want to focus on bringing traffic to your blog but the traffic will do nothing unless you keep them coming back. You need to create a good first impression. In order to keep that traffic coming back you need good content including photos. You also need a good format/design. I would recommend looking up popular blogs that have a large following in your niche and pattern your format and content after them.

 

I recommend 70/30.
