Where is the Social Media Section?

With its impressive growth as a marketing tool and popularity I think it's earned a category to itself here at DP. Being that it's still relatively new I'm sure plenty of people will have questions and look to discuss it. Just my two cents.

We do not allow bookmarking, tweeting, social media services so all is left is theoretical discussions which can be addressed in other areas of the forum.

Not a bad suggestion. There is a lot of discussion on social media marketing. Search "twitter" "digg" "stumbleupon" you get tons of threads...

Perhaps create a sub-forum under General Marketing?

If we're talking about it strictly from the social media marketing standpoint, I at least wouldn't say it's any more worthy of a sub-forum than other more established forms of marketing which we've done okay without - such as article marketing, email marketing, etc. Those seem to do just fine between general marketing and link development, and I doubt social media marketing wouldn't work equally well that way.

Well the thing is social media is a very broad term that embodies everything from social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn), blogging (WordPress), mini-blogging (Tumblr, Posterous), micro-blogging (Twitter), social bookmarking (Digg, Reddit), online video and video sharing sites (YouTube, MetaCafe), photo sharing (Flickr), combination sites (Ning, Squidoo) to various other platforms. As these continue to grow and develop I'm sure people are going to have questions. They can be scattered under General Marketing, but it'd be more worthwhile to categorize them. In my opinion at least (whatever that's worth, I am a peon here).

Yes, it's very broad. And beyond the marketing aspect, I can't say I've seen a whole lot of social media threads here. That's what most webmasters are looking to do with it afterall. Even if they're scattered, that's what the search function is for. It's not hard to find threads on Digg, Twitter, etc. as it is. Not saying Shawn won't add it - I believe it was on the list he was previously considering. But basing it on the number of threads created on the subject, the existing categories seem to accomodate them just fine. And even if a new category were created, the idea of categorizing them by the types of sites you mention (other than blogging which has its own forum), would probably be slim to none - simply too many new sections w/o enough demand on an individual basis.

From my personal stand, I absolutely hated those threads way back then. Also, I don't think Dp should be one of those forums that are known for their espionage and manipulation of good bookmarking sites. It was a good move when those types were moved to freebies, but, at that, it still urked me because there were too many. A subforum would be an acceptabl answer, just for the fact that I could IGNORE it!
    Okay, there's my dollar's worth :p

If you mean manipulation as in exchanges, they don't need a separate section. They've been banned from DP for quite some time (as are services related to those sites).
