can someone help me understand this?

i used to buy some AdW for my test site moviestreet.blogspot.com. on one particular word i got AdW traffic of ~2,500 clics per day.

now i am ranked #8 on the same keyword with the exactly same site. but traffic is zerro! how could that be?

It's normal. Many, many links do not get clicked on all that much. Yet another reason why search engine traffic is overrated.

Every now and then I hear from Webmasters who are at #4, 5, 6, and they get very few clicks in a day's time.

And not to be contradictory, but maybe it is your "description" in your html that is hurting you? Where is the link?

thanks for a reply Perry Rose.

now i understand it's normal. i am ranked #1 on a number of secondary KWs (eg "movie street" - it's a name of the blog, but not too descriptive of what i offer) an it gives me just 1-2 visitors a day..

what confuses me is that when i ran PPC on AdW for a KW "movi download" (very targeted for the content of the site) - i got 2,500 clicks/day with average position 2.5. now that i am organically ranked #2-8 on the same KW i get pretty much zero traffic.

link to the site is in my signature

What is Movie Street? Are that many doing a search on that term?

Don't you think that such terms as, movies, movie downloads, or, the title of the movie would be more searched on?

Perhaps you are having more success with movie download because many more are searcing under that term?

    u are exactly right.

still my question: why is traffic so different when comming from a sponsored link and from a regular list on G? with exactly the same search phrase and high positioning of the site in the list

Shuher, it's been a long day for me, so sorry if I am not understanding you completely. I did a search for movie download, and you are not listed. Are you saying at one time you were listred on page one, and that you also had an ad up too and you got more clicks from the ad?

    Rose :) sorry if i confused u

check for movi download (movie misspelled, no 'e' at the end), i must be in top 10. AdW ad is not up at the moment, i stopped ppc-ing some time ago

and yes, that's exactly what i am saying :) much more clicks from the ad - 2,500 vs 0 per day

    thanks for your help

    Ok, I got ya.

It can't really be explained. More people click on ads than the actual search engine link. We, as shoppers, are programmed to look at and click on ads. We see and hear ads all of our lives, so... That's just the way it is.

Combine that with the possibility that it could also have been just a fluke. Who knows. Many Webmasters have experienced that. It happens like that sometimes.

What you can do is to visit other boards to ask members which they click on more, the ads or the links. Then ask them why they would click more on the ads.

Sorry I can't help ya any more on this.

Maybe initially you were getting a lot of traffic because people were searching for specific things, and going to your site, clicking around, but those same people are still looking for something and already saw your site and are no longer going to it.

If that makes any sense...maybe it doesn't.
