First learn basics of jquery from here:

    http://jqfundamentals.com/chapter/jquery-basics

once you got a good understanding of what jquery is and how it works then the next most important thing is events in jquery that you should learn from here:

    http://learn.jquery.com/events/

once you are done with events then you are free on your on and start working on projects. As you get problems on way you would learn more and more ;)

    cheers

May I recommend https://www.codeschool.com/ I learned jQuery from there
the concept is really nice they teach you a lesson then right after you have to do it yourself by solving their question/task
    You should try it... :)

    Good luck

Best way to learn is often to find a project / problem you need to solve, then try to figure out how to solve it. Start by building a webpage, for example, with proper coding, css etc. Then add ajax-calls, sliders, animations, fadeins, etc. for the content, as you see fit. Every little bit will teach you something more about how to use jQuery.
