Where is all this traffic coming from?

I have a site that has been up for some time. For the last year or so, I seem to be getting a great deal of referrers from an assortment of very similar p0rn sites. When I research the sites, I can find no source for the traffic. These sites are responsible for about 60% of my bandwidth use.

Stats info with URLs of offenders: http://www.randomlinks.com/temp/random_bear.jpg

Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks! :D

are your traffic stats public? i've seen similar things happen on other websites, the aim of the spammers being to get extra backlinks on the stats pages

There was a similar thread about this yesterday, it seems to be on the increase.

If you publish your referrer logs then stop, and IP disallow the sites that are sending the fake hits.

Those are trackbacks, the best way to avoid it is as Matt said, to block the IPs.

Dam! I had no idea that my stats were published for public view! Got to get that locked down.

I used these two sites for research:
    http://www.clockwatchers.com/htaccess_block.html
    http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess5.shtml

Thanks for the info. I’ll post back in a few weeks to report how my changes are working.

    Thanks
