There are phpbb skins for this. you can just go to yahoo or google search engine and look for phpbb adsense skins.
You need a FTP client to upload files using FTP. You can use the free client SmartFTP for this. After that you will have to configure the client. After that create a New Remote Browser from the file menu. Update the dialog with your host (ftp.yourdomain.com), username and password. Browse to where you are supposed to upload the files and upload.
Before you start playing with placing Adsense code on your site, I would suggest that you get familiar with FTP, HTML and playing with your forum software's template.
