IMO, yahoo dir is the best directory . You can visit it from dir.yahoo.com.

Yahoo is pretty nice but you may as well ask who is the best football player. Ask 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers.

Best to study, evaluate and use your own judgement.

You need best directory in which terms  Popularity ? Good Design ? High PR ?

As swedal says 'Ask 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers' so better find it yourself with your own criteria.

    DON.

What do you mean best directory? Best for SEO, then there are DMOZ, yahoo, lii.org, stpt.com, etc. Or higher pagerank or free?

Yahoo's directory has not offered one visitor to about a dozen sites we monitor there, the search engine results did. But as you said ask 10 and you'll get ten differing opinions. Mines number 5. :)

Lol :) a question like this always makes me smile, it always sounds child like, how can others decide something is best? specify what makes something good.

The best directory for me won't be the best directory for you. Look for a directory in your niche and has a lot of traffic.

Nice looking design although you might want to revise your description of botw as it just isnt true. They were a simple award site until a few years ago so its pretty misleading to the public to say they have been a directory since 1994. Also how on earth you can put dirjournal in your top 10 beats me as it doesn't have any real content. But as someone said the other day regarding this kind of site, hopefully people will see that they are just the opinion of the owner not based on fact.

Have to say it again though, I do like the design of the resource, very neatly presented.

Picking up on a theme here with you JamieG...

We have been a directory since 1994. There is no misrepresentation. Your repeated claims to the contrary are what is misleading. BOTW was simply transformed from its original directory structure of best of class sites to a more general web directory structure.

    Pick another battle.

Like Jamie said list is one persons opinion and seems to greatly rely upon Page Rank to evalutate sites. Nothing listed on the site below pr5.

Maybe it should be Googles List of Great Directories> :)

No you haven't, cut the lying out. You were point blank nothing more than an over-inflated award site until a few years back. (I'm even looking at one of your tacky membership cards as we speak). You quite cleverly marketed yourselves then as something more than you really were then, and your doing it again now. Pick another battle? I haven't picked one, I've just pointed out facts supported categorically by the web archive machine, if I did wish to 'pick a battle' to use your words, you'd lose, trust me on that. ;)

No such thing as the 'best directory' - it doesn't exist. Now, if we are talking about the most targeted directory, then the directory has a good criteria on which to be judged.

Does it provide the right traffic?

If listed in it, will it get you penalized?

Is the directory respected outside the webmaster community?

~ you should be looking to put a Yes, No, Yes next to the above, and then you will have a pretty good guide when selecting a directory.

Who cares about PR anymore - really, only those that want to sell it, now is that doing YOU any good? I'd say no to that one.

Next, if it sends the exact traffic for you, then it's a good thing.

Next, who cares how many links it's got, chances are those links are worthless, and doesn't guarantee the traffic off those links is what you're looking for. Meaning bad traffic won't click through to links anyway - wrong link type for the traffic.....
