Where have sitelinks (authority gone)?

I was pleasantly surprised a couple of months back when my domain started showing up with extra site links under the search results for one specific keyphrase.

The site still ranks #1 for that same keyphrase but the extra site links haven't showed for the last couple of days.

Where have they gone? It's a mystery :)

they have probably been removed due to duplicate content, i notice the same for some of my links.

The only thing I have changed recently was to change a redirect from my .com site. That was on permanent redirect to the .co.uk (which is the one that had the authority sitelinks) but I wanted to put some fresh content on the .com

Would that have made a difference?

The redirect could have done it if you had links going to the .com, and not the .uk. You essentially wiped out some of your backlinks.

How many will I get back if I reinstate the 301 permanent redirect?

I don't think - you will get them back immediately. I also had a site with sitelinks- but they went away soon after I updated my sitemap in the WMT.
It was 3 months back and I am still waiting to get them back.

Yeah, that's right. I took off the redirect to play around with WordPress, needed somewhere to install and hadn't used it before.

Have put the redirect back in place though now.

No DC on ours yet we have been experiencing the same issue with one of our niche directories.

The site gets tons of traffic so it really makes no difference in the end ;)

Saying it makes no difference is a little ignorant. The presence of sitelinks can improve your conversion rates and bounce rates by directing people to the specific page they are interested in. It improves the overall user experience. Sure you will likely still get most of that traffic without sitelinks, but it might convert a little lower.
