Have you actually used the plug in? You have to click on the ad to block it... sweet! When you block it it stops appearing. But when you go to the next site with Adsense the ads still appear. Hmmmm. How many average people are going to take the time to do this? Hardly any. So the only people that are blocking the ads are the very people that wouldn't click on them anyways. So this could in effect be a good thing for CTR's. And people have a right to block whatever they want to block. If anyone is to blame it's advertisers continually trying to unethically cram ads down users throats. I have no problem with this plug in and I use it and I also make a He$% of a lot of money from Adsense. Ask any ordinary person if they have ever heard of this plug in... and see what you get back as a response. There are a whole lot of things eating into Affiliate Commissions... it's not an easy business. But the real culprit will be Government Taxation.
This has been brought up before and I think its a real problem. I use adblocker myself but only to keep the impressions down on my own sites when I'm working on them. I'm sure Google will come up with something if this gets out of hand.
This issue actually came up recently in the news when the adblock extension for Chrome came out. Google's position was something like "if people are blocking ads, it means the ads are too annoying. Therefore we'll just make them better so that people don't block them. We welcome the challenge." Of course, maybe they were just being cavalier. After all, it does their stock no good to let on that they are worried about it.
I had no idea that there was an add-on like this for Chrome. They're playing with fire there! I bet the guys at Microsoft are rubbing their hands together when they hear stuff like that!
Wow. I didn't know about Adsweep, which blocks Chrome ads. I'll bet G is very unhappy about this. So, it looks like ALL ads can be blocked on ANY browser, if the user chooses. This is not so good for AdSense publishers. Or G. . .
There is no way this pace will keep up. Do you know how many people use FF that dont even know how to download add ons? Also, unless you are running a tech blog then I really dont think you will have any problem because 70% of the internet uses IE.
