Just running a poll to find out where people get the majority of there traffic.

The big winner for me is a controversial story that lights up the blogoshpere, after the first one, unfortunately I haven't been able to repeat.

Second place for me is social networking sites.

Search engines and backlinks take a big early lead, I am thinking SEO and link development is a great way to spend time.

90% of my traffic is all returning visitors. The rest is mostly from CPC ads.

I think you should add 2 more options in the poll..

a. Forum posts / links
b. Banners (this could actually be part of Paid Advertisement)

I get most of my traffic from Search Engines, particularly Yahoo and MSN, and also from the DP forum signature links

I get a lot of traffic from my forum signatures. I also love article writing submit and I get traffic from sites that publish my articles.

I just realized that viral marketing is the best of all.

While you need big efforts to promote a site, when this site is usefull it will be promoted 'magically' from the visitors

after that dominated by SE's and of course word of mouth / leechers

At first, I had traffic mostly from other sites using my articles, but once my content started growing I get most of mine from SE's. I don't bother much with anything else except writing and sending out newsletters. It's all I have time for.

And the occasional post on DP
