They do have a nice set-up & claim to be no link-back, but if you read the Terms of use License, it clearly states that "ALL Photo's used in website template designs MUST be linked back". That's the only thing I don't like, other than that, it's a Great free Stock site. Thanks for the Link
As for whether you should pay each image you use .. yes that's true but if you are working for a client you are allowed to use a watermarked version for presentation purposes and if the client likes the image then what the heck .. just go and make a small contribution for the photographer
Sorry, I spaced on this thread for a while. Regarding the link requirement - yes, the one instance where the site requires credit is in web template that are being redistributed or made available to users of wordpress, a CMS, or whatever. Most stock sites completely ban any use in a web template that will be distributed - Freerange wanted to be more flexible, so it is allowed with credit. For any normal, one-off design, no credit is needed.
There are not many free stock image sites. One of the few free ones that I am aware of is Stock.xchng. Many stock image marketplaces sell images via credits that you can buy, starting with 1$ and heavy customers can buy a subscription plan. But really free stock images sites are scarce Stockxpert is a good alternative. It works via de credits system. Both sites have been named in this thread. I like everystockphoto.com, a search engine for free photos. They let you add your Flickr account to your profile once you are registered. I community members are able to tag and rate images. Everystockphoto makes me At imagekind.com you can shop for artwork for a relative low price. I love ultrashock.com. They work via credits as well. Tip: carefully read the license agreement each time you want to use an image. Then you know what you can do with the image and what you may not do with it. Many sites have a long registration process. Even the street where I live is a required field. I hate that . Thanks for the Blue Vertigo tip!
iStockphoto has everything i need on every work i have. Its simple the best and fast way to get quality stuff.
yes i go there all the time...if you look through carefully, you can find some good ones with generous photographers who doesn't demand you to put their name on everything you make...just have to let them know. AND it's FREE...awesomeness!
