Hello. I've noticed that many people on these forums refer to sites as being, say, "PR5" or "PR3". What I'm curious about is where people get these PageRank numbers from, if someone wouldn't mind informing me? I am aware that the Google Toolbar displays a ranking out of 10 for each page visited, but I have heard that this ranking and the actual PageRank used by the Google search engine are two completely separate values, even though a high ranking in one probably happens to correlate with a high ranking in the other. So, is there some other source that people get these PageRank values from, or are they just referring to the values reported by the Google Toolbar? Thanks in advance for any info!
I learned recently that the Google bar can be kinda misleading! Shrug! I kept asking people why on MY Google bar said PC101 had a PR5 but it seemed on everyone elses it was PR0. There's something called Data Centers, which I don't quite understand but basically PR can vary depending on which DC your bar is picking it up its information. Try this site... http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker Lyte
there's no other source than the toolbar. all other sources are either 1) shots in the dark or 2) emulating the toolbar and fetching the results from google. there's no way to see "true PR." the toolbar PR is the closest the public comes to seeing what PR sites have.
I agree with you there... but from my understanding it's only updated about 4 times a year so your PR might be higher or lower, but the tool bar only tells what it was at the last update. The last update was a few weeks ago I believe.
Google PR is basically an opaque method to rank a website. ( by the Whole Google is opaque to outside world.) You should not read too much into Google PR shown on the Tooldbar because it is most of time not the real indicator of the Rank of the page. Try to get good number of inbound links and get your website more targetted on your visitors. This will get you good ranking in the Big G. Leave all these stuff of Google PR to the SEO who manupulate and make big money on these claims. Arvind Kumar
well said nuttymarketer but lets keep in mind that it is also important to all websites, mainly for link exchange. The PR that you see on the toolbars are the round of version. //edit Just my opinion
What do y'all think of this one... http://livepr.raketforskning [dot] com Like the other link I provided... you'll find it gives you different totals depending on the DC providing the score. Lyte
Well was a bit lovable... Shows two sets of pr values from different data centers one showing the toolbar pr and the other live pr. Well as the toolbar pr kept showing pr2 for all the data centers the live pr showed pr5 for my website... I loved it... I hope that I may be going to see some increase in my pr in near future.. What do you all say about this.. Manish
ok that livepr site is one of the biggest reasons to pay even less attention to PR. A couple of my sites varied so greatly in PR that it made the tool completely useless. One site varied from PR2 to PR7. The current G toolbar PR for the site is 6 with 226 G backlinks and ranking #5 or higher for 28 competitive terms accross almost all DCs.
I was told... yeah, grab a grain of salt... that one of the DC scores is for future PR when Google does it's thang again. Who knows!? Frankly, I don't put too much stock in these sites or the Google bar! Lyte

Hi everyone, I was wondering: How accurate is the data given by alexa? and do you know any other website similar to it? finally how can my ranking go higher on yahoo or google? Thank you in advance, Monica www.ivari.com
Most webmasters like to use (and should use) the Google toolbar to get the "official" PR value, but sometimes webmasters who have got new sites that are still PR0 on the toolbar hunt around for other tools on the web and find one that reports them as a PR4 or PR5 (Say) and quote these tools while they exchange links! I only trust the toolbar and nothing else. Having said that, as disgust said .... There's no other real source for finding the toolbar PR other than the Google toolbar. In any case, don't worry about it too much. PR is only important if you are exchanging links, selling advertising on your site or just bragging about how high your PR is!
Speaking of where to get your PR data - I always use the toolbar, and today I noticed one of my sites drop from PR6 to PR5. This must have happened within the last 3 days, but I'm not aware of any current toolbar PR update. I'm using Google's toolbar on firefox. Anyone else seeing things like this?
I use pagerank.net :-D been using it a while and it seems pretty acceptable across the boards thus far.
I used to use prchecker.info but then I found one which will search most of Google's datacenters across the world. The tool is called Multiple Data Center Pagerank Tool at www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank-dc.html I believe it gives the best result in term of accuracy. Besides, you will know whether there is another PR update as well because Google will update the PR from datacenter to datacenter.
