    Yeah, talk about zero credibility!

"the worlds largest HUMAN EDITED directory" Ya know, the one with tens of thousands of DEEP links to a single site that consist of duplicate content.

A directory with editors that post here on Digital Point that call following the guidelines as a means to get in "shaky".

A directory that has a submission queue that at least some editors use as a list of sites to NOT list.

A place that hides behind 'confidentiality guidelines' yet expects everyone else to back up their claims even though doing such things can get their sites banned and their 'sources' to get kicked out of the project.

A hierarchy system that encourages secrecy and elitism, yet has positively NO communication with the end user or submitter....yet is seeming there FOR such active members of the internet.

An application system that gives at least some feedback, so people can try and try and try to become an editor, yet has a submission system that has the rule of "submit and forget" which does nothing but encourage people to become editors to simply get their sites listed.

*shrug* The member explained why he can get several sites listed, but not others... which in many ways makes sense that IS how the directory works. Getting "in" with an editor on one category does not mean they can get "in"to another category... unless that friendly editor has access across the board.

Besides, it should be pretty clear that the directory moves like a turtle in some areas and like rabbit in others. It does have a touch of logic, that the faster areas are the areas that are getting paid... heh, there are after all several sites out there offering DMOZ listings for a fee... sites that have such deals completed.

Can I prove that all the transactions of those sites are for real? No, but I can prove that some sites DID pay and got a listing. When such things are made public the sites get removed and the editors are let go. That's something that the ODP needs to accept... So are there some paid sections of the ODP, heh, certainly! Which goes back to the zero credibility that Mr. Jones was talking about.

ROFL. G'mornin' Q. Dang... have you considered trying decaf? :)

I don't have an ax to grind. No longer there, & when I was I just manned an oar, didnt drive the boat. Outta curiosity, if we take away "tens of thousands" of links to your favorite Skrenta site... which would you say IS "the largest human edited directory"?

btw - The speculation that faster moving cats are "paid" doesn't match my recollection, and I was there a lot longer (8 1/2 yrs vs under 2 months). Not a criticism as much as an observation... surprised you picked up so much more given I tried pretty hard to find & expose what you're talking about. I did help get a handful I ran across stopped and the eds removed, but the idea it's prevalent is pretty much just urban legend. The place is far from perfect, but given the model they've done well.

I did suggest long ago that they implement an "express lane" queue that allowed for paid reviews with a guaranteed time for an up/down call and notification of same... that'd pretty much end a LOT of problems IMO. Idea didn't fly, but I still think the concept has merit. Problem they have is it is entirely against their longstanding TOS and agreement with the eds. Too bad.

Many of senior editors find it on the Note section of email that they receive from Paypal that informs them about new payment. :D

This is a serious accusations of corruption in a public forum. Thread closed, you can reopen the thread with your evidence by "Reporting" the thread. We do not wish that baseless unsubstantiated accusations be leveled against anyone without evidence especially in such a popular forum like DP which is widely followed by the major search engines.
