A few of the many dozens of ebooks I purchased helped over the last 10 years but 95% of what I learned was in forums like this and by networking with other internet marketers.

I like this question..makes me look back.

Well, for me, it was a blessing in disguise.
Have worked under IT companies, from one company to another. We're able to interact with different types of clients, learned things in the hard ways both feed and researched on my own. Until one day I realized that I wanted to learn more and more.

hehehe...makes me lookback from long time ago.

I learnt through reading...of course from forum, website, article directories, and also attending Internet bootcamp :) talking about gathering with like-minded people.

I got some beginning tips here on DP. I never realized the importance of traffic (dumb, I know) until I came here. I just used some tips and tricks I found here, then started going out there and testing it for myself. I read a ton starting out, but I think the best thing you can do is just go out there and do it. You're going to lose some money initially, it's bound to happen. But play it smart, don't over-invest, and be prepared to lose everything you put in. Eventually, you'll land on something good. :)

When i write articles on affiliate marketing i always emphasize on picking the right company. I learnt from marketing skills from SFI Marketing Group & Plug-In Profit Site. SFI marketing one of the free to join affiliate programs am currently promoting and the Plug-In Profit Site helped me to create a free money making site featuring different affiliate programs of my choice.

Both companies provides a free comprehensive information on how to promote a product/website. I wouldn't be anywhere without joining the right companies. Internet marketing requires a learning curve and most people who come on board barely have the skills to succeed.

Good companies showcase internet marketing tutorials in a lay mans language.

    Best Wishes,
    John

I have learned my amazing marketing skills mostly through DP actually! Everything you need to know is somewhere within these forums, you just have to find the info you want to know - don't waste your money on ebooks like I have in the past! :(

I think I have learned the things, because at the time I started doing Internet Marketing, "internet marketing" or "SEO" was even not in the dictionary !

I think nowadays we can pick up IM skills and knowledge from almost everywhere..as long as we have the desire to learn and make it happen. Information are everywhere from the offline magazine, book, seminar, bootcamp to the never-ending sources of info from the internet.. Most importantly, just take ACTION !

    1. Identify the business model that you want to focus into (eg Affiliate Marketing)

    2. Then, always be on the lookout for the info regarding "Affiliate Marketing" (you may want to invest in software, books, etc) that will help you to save time and to fasttrack your successs in affiliate marketing. Also, Subscribe to newsletter about affiliate marketing (google it). Don't forget to look for any seminar/bootcamp that talk about affiliate marketing to increase your knowledge.

3.Focus is VERY IMPORTANT, ignore all other attractive offer that come to your way. There are tons of email offer promoting the best deal on the internet. You know the latest launches for products, services that try to divert your attention. Ignore them all ! Focus on one business model at a time (in this case, affiliate marketing).

4.Take consistent action and success will come your way.

    hey guys

Great topic and a broad range of answers,

I have been in the industry a long time and must say that trial and error is def the way i learnt,

In terms of technical ability etc, you have to learn that somewhere so i read a load of blogs about people who have been there before. No use trying to reinvent the wheel

A couple of blogs and forums i follow:

    www.digitalpoint.com
    www.affiliate4u.com
    www.warriorforum.com
    www.pluginid.com
    www.seomoz.com

From forum, from hubpages, from Problogger and other blogs, and from personal experience. I think nothing beats painful experience.
