Politicians in the UK haven't been in good light lately due to a lot of reasons and one of the main reasons being the expenses scandal. These politicians need to know that there will be reprisals if their promises are broken or simply don't promise something which you cannot give. If everyone does nothing, what happens next election is that you'll get the same spiral of promises, only to be broken again; except all parties will be employing these tactics. Especially if nothing is done. I really do hope the list of broken promises comes up next election.

Whatever the case. What is done is done. I think what the Conservatives are doing is okay to the extent, they are making cuts where it is needed now, so we don't have to bring this all up later, when we really are in the hole. Demonstrations are a good thing. It shows the next government what not to do next to which politicians will eventually learn by in the end.

As Margaret Thatcher said, "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They [socialists] always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them." It's often paraphrased as "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

Politicians can't really give anything without stealing it from someone else. Which is morally worse, my stealing $10 from you and giving it to Obamanation, or my saying that I would do that and then changing my mind?

Do the demonstrations really hurt the politicians, or do they just destroy private property and give nightmares to the store clerks and others who are victimized by them?

It hurts them in the next election I would guess, they definitely won't get the student vote nor those who voted for them who have graduated from University who voted for them in previous election. It hurts small business and big business when stores are ripped up, but it sends a message to the next government since messages aren't as well conveyed in letters to the government/prime minister/education minister. Though it sure as hell gives the opposition party something to use against the incumbent.

I'm a university graduate. If a political party in my country decided not to steal wealth and redistribute it to rioting cretins, I'd be more likely to vote for them. It seems presumptuous of you to group all students and graduates in with what I hope is a minority of rioters and whiney socialists who instead of spending their time working to pay their tuition, complain about how someone else ought to work for their sake.

I noticed that you did not answer Will.Spencer's question: "Politicians can't really give anything without stealing it from someone else. Which is morally worse, my stealing $10 from you and giving it to Obamanation, or my saying that I would do that and then changing my mind?"

As a small business owner, if my stores were vandalized and my employees roughed up, I don't see myself voting for a candidate or party who promises to take $7,500 out of my pocket and give it to the ruffians to bribe them not to attack me again. I'd be more likely to vote for a candidate who promises to build wooden stocks in the public square as a place to store these hooligans.

Student vote implies a majority of students who voted and who are students however weren't given the promise given by an elected party.

If you look at how many people who protested (50,000 students) it gives a high indication that a lot of students didn't like that they voted for a party who didn't actually give what they promised. Will they vote for that party come next election, probably not.

Maybe because I agreed with him. But we live in a capitalist society. Just the way things work; deal with it.

They also attacked a Treasury building:

All this because they have to pay $14k per year in College Tuition?

Here in the US some of the lower end schools charge that per semester, not including room, board, supplies, books, etc.

I knew I should have spent more of my college years in the UK. Would have been a hell of a lot cheaper!

And what fascinating extracurricular activities they seem to have!

I wonder if the hooligans pictured above will be given credit in shop class for their handiwork?

I spent at least part of my collegiate tour in the UK, both England and Scotland. Primarily in York, Stratford Upon Avon and Glasgow. Art and Theater. I'm kinda miffed by what they are complaining about. They've been paying $4700 US per YEAR.. not per month, per semester, etc.. per YEAR for college tuition. My wife's education cost $20k per year in the early 90's. I've always been blown away by how far a dollar could go abroad. Even as shitty as the dollar is now.

The difference really in the US? We have very strong teachers unions and a tenure system. What you are paying for in terms of tuition are 6 and 7 figure incomes for your professors, ta's, deans, etc... Imagine what tuition would be like her without the teachers unions.

I heard 10k. Oh the horror! Still dramatically cheaper than instate tuition for a UC.

Nice pictures Will. I don't expect any better behavior from those Dependant on the nanny state in America when the teet is removed from their mouths over the next few years.

Well they pay $4700 on average now.
They are going to be paying around $14k-ish...

So that 10 figure is the "difference" in what they will be paying. In other words they are moaning that it is going up $10k per year.
Still a bargain if you ask me.

I'm hungry. I think I'm going to go out and riot until the government gives me a free cheeseburger.

Oh wait... Singapore might not be the best place to try that... :p

You could starve to death there... Its not like you'll find any chewing gum on the street to eat, or litter anywhere for that matter. You could protest in a visible form and help destroy the planet. Wait, you can't spray paint things either... Madness I tell you!!!

Oh yeah... another slightly tarded Westerner found that out this year.

This doofus, Oliver Fricker, got three stokes of the cane and five months in jail to heal up.

I don't know maybe it's just me, but all those "students" look like intifada fighters. Look at the scarf on one of the guys on the pic above. I think your media is so freaking scared to tell what is really going on. Your medial lies more than some of the US media does.

Exactly! Those Brit politicians should stop pooping in their pants and take actions. Or it's going to be too late. Some people are saying that IT IS too late, already.
