Where did Google's competitor Cuil Go?

A few months back, "cuil" was a buzzword in the Internet. Some of them even termed it as a Google killer. This search engine developed by few ex-employees of Google seemed to be more promising. However, now there is no news about cuil. Are they really developing this search engine?

I think no company will ever catch up with what Google has been through and has achieved by today...

I do not think cuil is the competitor of Google, though they have worked in google before.

If you go to cuil.com and view the style of the search results, it will be almost same as google in early days.

let us wait and watch the competition.

Even 'cuil' starts the PPC ad network .. we will welcome it

Cuil was in the discussion few months back. But after sometime, people start to forget about it. I never got any traffic from this search engine and I doubt that I will get any in the future :)

They may have had some real buzz earlier on, but their spider was not well behaved. I didn't see anything interesting in their results page either.

Well, they are fresh, so a little patience and we will see whether cuil has the potential to compete with google... At any rate they have a very long way to go to achieve at least part of what google has achieved until now. Competition is healthy, it makes goods and services cheaper and better :), so I totally welcome a google rival, provided it is a worthy one.

It wasn't good enough to make people shift from Google.

It'll take them more time, but at this moment, they have not managed to make as much progress as they should have.

It got no traction, as many DPers predicted.

Its a waste of time to try and go up against google to compete with them, the time would be better spent building a site and following that becomes attractive to google to the point that they want to buy you, as they so often do.

It was over-exaggerated from the start.

Yep it is a surprise that they are still up. The fact is none can beat the big "G". But if the competitors work hard, thatz possible too. Cuil is a good platform... needs development

    Hello...

I expected more from them with all the buzz that was created...
While they claim they have the biggest index im not impressed with the results or looks.

If you ask me searchme.com blows most of the competition away for its looks and results
but still has a way to go in showing better results like google.

    Anyway ...Happy Easter everyone!

    thx

You must be better than Google to successfully compete with Google. Cuil was promising, but now it doesn't look promising anymore. I have tried search on many keywords, results were not relevant as they should be.

Cuil will surely not be Google competitor. I read some poeple saying that no search engine will ever beat Google. I just laugh. If there is anything i have learned in this world, it is never to say never!.

Even the almighty Google will one day go out of business. Just as they over powered yahoo, some one will over power them! Just wait and see. it is not going to be tomorrow, or next year, or next ten years, but it could be the next 15 to 20 years or so.
