Where can your press release be submited to besides PRWeb? I want to submit it to ask many places as possible. PRWeb is good right? Do stories get picked up? THanks, C
If your goal is to submit it to "as many places as possible" then you don't understand press release distribution enough to be using them effectively yet. I run a PR firm, so simply put, it's what I do. I have a lot of free advice available on my sites. Here are two resources to point you in the right direction: Effective Free Press Release Distribution in 5 Easy Steps Big List of Free Press Release Distribution Sites
Jenn, if you submit a Press release to PR.com, will you most likely not get picked up by many newspapers if its not HUGE news? Is it hard to get through to editors? Are they hard to deal with? By the way your site is great!
Yes, it can be hard to get through to editors. No, they're not hard to "deal with." If you take the time to do something newsworthy, write a quality press release, and get it in front of them in a way they prefer (and time), you'll be fine. Can anyone guarantee you placement? No. Why? Because news is always relative. While something you're doing might be newsworthy enough to cover on a slow news day, if there's something huge going on (elections, natural disasters, etc., or even something like an event in your industry that has buzz surrounding it), editors and journalists may consider the story just fluff, or may not have room to mention you. Don't count on things like PR.com and PRweb to get you major media coverage. Can it happen? Yes. But those situations are the exception; not the rule. Most journalists don't use those kinds of sources to scour for news, and the sites that claim they do generally only mean that they've created a mailing list or have journalists subscribed to an rss feed, meaning they can't guarantee your release is being read by anyone at all. Use those sites as a supplement; not your primary distribution plan. They're more for getting into Google news, yahoo news, etc. or to reach bloggers and some online media outlets (occasionally large ones, but usually smaller ones). Glad you enjoyed the site.
