hi guys, a friend of mine recently got scammed by a company based in the uk. they offered him a "fully SEO'd, top notch website" and unlimited expert marketing training for a fixed amount. Anyway the website he was given was complete rubbish and training was non existant. Since then he has found out that there are over 40 unhappy customers who are in the same boat. He's not a member of DP so he asked me to start this thread.

basically he wants to know can anybody recommend the best sites to report these internet scams?

Also he wants to let the world know as to prevent anybody else loosing their money

what would you recommend he does?

No. You can't report internet scammers. It's your own fault for being dumb and letting them scam you. You could try to file a paypal claim but that's about all you can do. Sorry.

could maybe try a whois on the site, although they probably covered their tracks.
i think you wrong "backupmysite" y label someone dumb because they get scammed. yes you need to be carefull but in most cases it has nothing to do with being dumb.

since you are in the uk i (as am i) these sites may help
    www.crimestoppers-uk.org
    www.met.police.uk/fraudalert
    www.consumerfraudreporting.org/reporting
just a few but google will throw up a load more for you

    hope this helps mate goodluck!

In the UK consumer protection laws are pretty powerful. If he bought it as a commercial enterprise then it will be much more difficult as the costs of pursuing this may be substantial. The first thing you need to clarify is whether he has any proof besides just what he says - something in writing, saved extracts from their web site, correspondence etc. The strength of that information would be the starting point for deciding what to do next.

If these scammers run a legit website, and is accredited by the BBB, you can always report them there. Use the sites 10biscuits posted, the more reports you put on them the more eyes will be on them. :)

I envy you guys in the UK then. Here in the US, the government can give a damn about scamming on the internet. It just doesn't matter to anyone if you scam people since the law here never catches up with the times.

You can also look up the product / service / opportunity and put scam next to it to see if anyone else is reporting it, because it can be done. I do this before i put anything on my site. Also you can try submitting your complaint to "IMREPORTCARD" I check for scams there as well. Hope this helps!

Good question. Lots of good info here. I got scamed by a guy on CL posting false ads so that I got over 1000 calls asking about my tv for sale.
