I did not know where to ask this - we need a hosting advice forum here If I wanted to keep all of my domains about 43, but 30 that I would like to host and turn into sites with content I am using dreamhost to host 10 and I had only 2 up and running and I have already had downtime and cpu minutes warnings from them? "Our system has flagged your account because it is using a large number of CPU minutes per day on cornelius. We need you to trim down your resource consumption considerably. Should you ignore this or subsequent warnings your account may be moved to an evaluation server which could cause downtime." I have never been able to fun a forum without problems... I have been thinking on paying $100+ for a dedicated domain but I know very little about servers and would need one that had support plus can host my 30 domains fully with resources for community forums on at least 3 of them. http://uptime.netcraft.com/perf/reports/performance/Hosters?tn=october_2005 I almost took the bait with Jumpline's VDS Hosting... Please help me find a good solution for a person who knows very little about running servers - I'm a designer - Painter
A VPS might be good if you do not fully understand servers, i get 30gb space, 450gb bandwidth all with root access, cpanel and whm (so you could even sell of some space etc) for about $90 a month, and you do not have to pay server admin bills cos its completly managed by the company. (allthough i have root access so can install things if need be) or you could get a reseller account from somewhere like hostgator or asmallorange
Just wondering, how well does a virtual private server perform in search engine rankings. I know the best thing is go with a dedicated server and worst is 'normal' hosting with 5000+ websites on one server. I'm thinking of switching to a virtual server. What are your findings j4t?
i used to be on a dedicated server (a mates that was used to host his and my projects) and since moving to the VPS i have seen no change + or -, still indexed the same, same traffic etc, the main plus is its a lot less stressfull since you aint gotta keep worrying about is the server down, is the server working etc, since its all managed by someone else.
wrong board, read the TOS, I feel I have contributed enough to plug some of my services at this point.
