So, you have had multiple good suggestions on the posts above
The key thing is to choose a few of them and consistently work
on getting jobs from the platforms. The problem is that most freelancers
give up quickly after they fail to get a job on the site. But take your time,
focus on a site or two and commit to it until you are successful before
moving on to another site. This is the mistake I made when I was
starting out as a freelancer. It took me a while to figure out that 80%
of the jobs just comes from a few customers. So no need to keep
jumping from site to site.

 

Honestly, from experience I can tell you that - especially as a newcomer - all of those sites suck. But so does every single job if you're new at it. The goal is to get the foot in the door and then find and build your customers by word of mouth. Over time you'll probably start specialising on a specific type of client/software, and once you have some experience, a somewhat active LinkedIn profile is incredibly valuable, you'll get tons of job offers that way if you can deliver quality work.

 

The sites provided by above don't really get you any jobs with the number of people bidding on each jobs. It's better to build your portfolio slowly (either with clients you know in real life or with open source projects that are useful) and this will help you get recognition within the community you are working with. You can also take up writing (your own blog of sorts) which will also help this. With the portfolio and experience, you will be able to find more clients in real life (outside these platforms), which would help you get more parts working in a larger project.

This will take time, but it will pay in the long term compared to bidding in freelance sites where you need to pay to even get some kind of visibility with the employer.
