I have got bought 5 old laptops from ebay they all have the microsoft product key on the back of them but when i switch them on they are saying no operating system installed. So my question is where do i download a real copy of microsoft xp? Not cracked software or anything like. Can i get this direct from microsoft? If so how do i go about doing so? Any help on this topic would be great as this a small new hobby of mine Thanks guys
Those were OEM licenses. You can't download OEM setup packages. Contact your loca/regionall Microsoft office/dealer, maybe they can help.
Yeah OEM licenses if is there then you need to contact the support team so that they can help you out in this....Try it and I am sure your issue will be resolved because downloading will not work...
If its No OS installed, sounds like you need to install windows in the first place. Usually by changing the boot sequence to CD-ROM/ or whichever optical drive first, then boot the CD to continue for Windows Installation. Try placing one of the disc into a PC thats already got windows installed, and then click your Computer/My Computer icon, and look at your drive to see if it the CD even has files on it. If not, i'd be contacting the seller on ebay. Windows XP is a nice OS, but I'd try Vista, and Windows 7 isn't nothing to be hyped about.
No OS is anything to be hyped about, but out of those 3 XP is definitely the most low spec pc friendly. OP didn't specify anything other than they're "old" laptops, so without knowing too much I'd stay away from the memory hungry 7 and especially Vista.
I know that when you purchase your pc, it is already installed. But, there are more entrusted installer that can be bought in the market!

You can purchase the original Windows XP CD-ROM from online stores. Just add to your cart it will be delivered to your home.
There are several types of operating system in today's market, windows 7, windows Vista, Linux mint, Mac, windows XP, which one do you want to use? sometime it depend on your computer configuration. though windows XP is traditional version of OPS, you can get this on google. they provide all types of facility for their customer.
I have a copy of the Windows XP 2011. It's loaded with all the programs I need most like 7-zip, silverlight, IE8, etc.
Try linux ubuntu, if not then get an iso of the windows oem version and install it using the oem liscense provided
you can get original windows xp dics offered at ebay or sites like that. Since you have original license you can use that to install. Alternatively you can call your laptop maker on recovery disc / oem installation disc and i am sure they post it at around $10.
I'm sure Microsoft will be able to supply you with the CD media. They even might be so nice to send you a copy vir post.
