    Hi,

Hoping you guys can help out. The following Ireport on CNN is about a friend of mine who lives in Norther Michigan. Right now she is facing a heating shutoff notice from DTE Energy on what is to be one of the coldest days in history of our town.

where are my children's rights to stay warm this winter?

I'm asking for your help! CNN ranks their "ireports" like most websites....Traffic! The more clicks the more notice CNN takes of the ireport.

Her situation is like many other Americans this winter trying to survive in a recession as a recently laid off single Mother of Two.

Again, if you can help out it only takes a click and a minute to read a few paragraphs. Hopefully CNN will take notice and begin to address the way energy companies still shut people's heat off even on a day that it will reach as low as -50F.

    Thanks
    Will

Erik....just might have to do it.

Status right now is that the heat is still on but according to DTE that won't be that way for long come tomorrow morning. Imagine a company willing to turn heat off on a family on what is going to be the record setting day for cold in the local area. Their predicting as low as -50F.

    Ridiculous!

I didn't want to log in to comment (at the site in the link) - I have enough logins and I'm sure I'll have more. So, I was going to say that in the Great State of Idaho, that would be against the law. As I recall, a household with children under the age of eighteen and also under other circumstances including health (like diabetes - requiring refrigeration of insulin), utilities required for cooking, heating, heating water, and refrigeration cannot be shut off from October/November - April/May. And we're a "backwards" state.

    Yea well come to Michigan.....

in a nutshell.....a couple years ago the big energy companies in Michigan wooed the lawmakers into changing the law to "new and imporoved" rules. The bottom line is it made it easier for them to shut people off in middle of winter. Granted there are some extreme circumstances in this case but bottom line is tomorrow is going to be coldest day of year around here and I can't believe they are still sending someone out to shut off her heat.
