When you have a penality, what's the best thing to do to remove it?

    Hi,

I think I have a google penalty for something due to my sudden large drop in rankings which use to be well ranked.

Now I have removed lots of duplicate content from 2 different domains and have done some other things. Now I am just wondering what would be the best approach once I have done this. Do I just wait and the penality will just automatically go or should I contact Google and tell them that I think I may have a penality and I have done A, B & C to my site to remove the things that had most probably caused the penalty and will make sure that this doesn't happen again.

if you know the penaty reason , remove the penalty reason from your site and "Submit a reinclusion request" from your webmaster tools.

I don't have a penatly of any sort, but I'm curious about the reinclusion request. I've looked all through the tools, but don't see it. does anyone have a link that I could look at.

    Thanks

That is ONLY if he has been REMOVED from the index. Which he hasn't. The rankings simply dropped....

Do you think the way that I have done it now is better. I have moved the removed all major duplicate content form the .co.uk site and just have it as a UK shopping directory with UK merchant products which is totally different to the US merchant products?

Also if it's now OK, do you think my rankings will just slowly recover or do you think I need to do other things to make them recover.

Also, I have an articles directory on a sub domain in the .com domain, do you think it would be best to move that the a new domain as it has thousands of duplicate content on with other sites on the web and that could be also knocking the ranking down for the other sub domains of the site that has got no duplicate content on with other sites on the Web. The articles is only the duplicate content with other sites and all the rest has been written by me and people that I have paid to write for me.

As I have said before.. yo have an insanely complex problem to deal with. I personally believe U should step back and rethink things.. (network site structures).. a piecemeal approach may complicate things further... and lose potential BENEFITS that could be had...

    My advice... seek professional help.

Outside of that I am STILL a proponent of ONE site and subdomains ( 301 existing domains to the primary).

Having the content aggregated not only solves many of these issues, but gives the site profile an over-all boost for a greater amount of content and value.. far more than 4-5 individual sites would do.

Once again duplicate content CAN incur a penalty, especially if it's percieved that the 'sattelite' sites are an attempt to gain and advantage against the TOS.

You have, IMO, a muddled mess, that with more 'quick fixes' will only become further muddled. A better, more complete, plan of action is required my friend, yours is not a simple case, as we both know.
