When you ask a robot to return in 31 days..

Does anyone know if you ask a robot to return again in 31 days whether Google will automatically refresh its indexed cache of your page? And does the robot definitely return after 31 days if you instruct it to?

    Cheers,
    Ollie

Exactly, there is no reason to even include it. I think there was a Meta Engine that used that tag back in the day but for the last few years, it hasn't been used at all.

At one time, misuse of this meta was actually considered a shot in the foot as I recall .... ? Telling the bot to return in 1 day and have the same old content seemed to backfire more than it helped people - now it's just ignored altogether, one less line of code ;)

Ah...Those were the days when all it took was a good description and keyword tag to rank first.

By the way, if you don't know the story behind revisit, there is some info here

Lots of inbound links and change your content frequently (although the links are more significant)

If a search engine revisits your site and finds the content has changed since its last visit it will make sure it visits more frequently in the future.

If the content hasn't changed then it will decrease the frequency of the visits.

Thats the theory anyway. In reality its also related to PR and the number of links you are gaining.
