I don't think that they will ever be as popular because they just seem tacky. Just my opinion though.
I would say never. .info's been around for a while, but it hasn't gained much popularity. I would go as far as saying .mobi has a far greater chance.
yep...info just go short range of prospect i might say..you can used it as info portal website related....but mobi can get a better range since its mobile time now lol i got 2 info domain and used it as xxx portal....
I read report this fall saying that there are more .infos registered than I believe .nets or .orgs, but I cant find it and thus cant cite the source.
Even if that were true, which certainly is possible given the law of demand (.info domains are extremely cheap to register), there are far more .net and .org indexed on Google. We can infer from this that .info isn't nearly as popular.
I guess we have to look at what you consider "popular". It could be number of domains registered, number of domains indexed by google, average price of aftermarketing sale, extension of top 1000 alexa sites, etc
Well, I think it's most practical to measure it by the number of actual developed sites. This number will have a correlation with the sale prices in the secondary market as well.
I think com will always be king, but slowly, when info are used more and more by other people than black hats it will be popular like org and net. It will take some years though.
Never, the internet explosion has come and gone, it wouldn't even be growing as much if it wasn't for the .99 info deals going on.
.com was the first king, and it will be kind forever. .net has always been second and it will always stay second. .org was third but it is dropping fast, it was always used for organizational sites only, but now your seeing many sites using it just because .com and .net are taken, this is dilluting the extention and causing it to become less in value. .MOBI is catching up fast due to the prospects of mobile phones entering the internet sector. The only reason .info is as big as it is today is becasue it costs registrars six times less to register a .info then a .com, it gave it a boost in popularity but it has nothing going for it in the future.
when i search for some domain name, if theres still anything left is usually .info i guess this is why.
Well, the .info has never been very popular so much so that registrars need to offer them at super deep discount and practically selling them at a loss in order to attract people to sign up with them. That in the hope that after the first year, people will be trapped to using them and thus they would recover their investment from the second year. However doing so, it devalue what .info states for. The .info probably is more apt for non-commercial sites. I guess it will always be somewhere at the bottom of the barrel.
The pricing also means that everyone who wants to build spam MFA sites for cheap registers the .info. The Correlation between spam and .info has me seriously considering moving some nicely established sites.
On the contrary Im looking for premium info dictionary names ($500-$1500 in value) for a starting a nice site.
I don't think they are popular because people think they are cheap and not as well done because they couldn't get a .net or .com name.
nope, .info is not going to be as popular as .net/org/.com, though info stands better chance for recognition than .biz
Probably nothing will be as popular as .com and especially not .info. After that deal 2+ years ago when lots of registrars gave away the .info domains for free for a year, too many people used them for spam/porn/warez/more spam/etc. The .info domains are curerntly cheaper than other TLDs so they are used for spam even more... So yeah, they are popular in certain circles already
