Anyone here believe as I do that the earth is much younger than most secular scientists would claim? Any creationists here?

A creationist who believes in Evolution.

Universe is Age is infinite, so guessing the world falls somewhere between infinite and today. ;)

I think one line from Christianity says that the world was created in 4004 BC. A an old Bible I inherited from a relative maps out the years at the top of each page, which I found interesting.

So how do you go about proving that the world is younger than billions of years old? How does one explain fossils or dinosaurs? Scientists claim to have hordes of evidence for the age of the universe based on repeatable observations and trials. You'd have to have pretty convincing counter-proofs against all of that to start convincing a skeptic. I'm not saying they're right or wrong, but a belief or a thought, no matter how nice, doesn't usually add up to much without something more. Most people need evidence or at least a solid argument to go further.

So far I've seen nothing to convince me that the universe is younger than science claims. And who are the "secular" scientists? Many scientists are religious despite their fields of study (Einstein and Newton were).

    ewomack,

Remember something about the age of the universe. It means squat. So if I believe it's 1000 years old, or a gazillion, it means nothing. So for bible believers to count backwards generations to Adam, and come up with a number, good for them (as in I have my own theory and does coincide with the bible), regardless right or wrong, who cares. ;) Dinosaurs if true or not, seem more like science fiction to me, and I was one of the first people I've ever heard that more than a couple of species of hominids HAD to co-exists, because it makes sense with the bible themes, and only recently have the science channels start saying the same thing, decades after I thought of it.

For my fellow bible believers, for the ones that beat me up for NOT believing the world is 6000 years old, I ask them one thing: How long was Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden?

Could have been one day, could have 16 trillion years. Like again, regardless, it is not a principle of faith, or going to change how anyone approaches life or salvation. I don't think anyone jumped off a building in confusion between 6,000 years or 16 billion, but then again, after reading this thread, some people might.

    :D

Alone with a woman who only has you to talk to (and thus, nag). A day only feels like 16 trillion years :p

ah let me toss in a wrench, Eve was made specifically for Adam. No 'cycles', no aging, both full of youth and energy. Plus it appears she was actually the smarter of the two. (Ready for those red reps from bible thumpers).

The serpent had to twist words, and work against reasoning Eve, but Adam ate with no protests. :p

For the married fokes, remember when you wife was younger, no kids, full of energy, so happy to please her new husband, and open to 'almost anything'? :D
Where's My Eve? Ooops here she comes to tell me to take out the trash.

Ah, yes. I believe it was created about 6000 year ago. Not 4.5 Billion.

When I was way younger than I am now...
And I was questioning the whole creation thing (even at a young age, I had to find out the real truth behind Adam and Eve).
And one of my teachers, a Jesuit priest, told me something I have never forgot.
The truth of the bible, God, and every other question man has is only revealed when he dies.

Yes, it has to be a big bang that started it all!

I dont believe the big bang theory... It really doesnt explain how things became intelligent although I have Christian beliefs so might be classed as biased to some.

I dont even think it was created 6000~ years ago... I believe Earth was created and took many years to create "days being time periods and not literally 24 hours". So dinosaurs and that lot may have been around in the creation before Adam and Eve came along.

Anyway... thats kind of how I think it might be... not 100% sure though as all religion teaches is about a creation, 7 days to create Earth and then adam and eve. Rest to me is speculation.

Adam and Eve? C'mon man! There's physical proof of living creatures from 16 million years ago.

The first animals on the planet were fish. So basically Adam and Eve were Salmon. :p

God never tells when he created the Universe. Just that he did. It is once gain bible scholars, and those self-appointed religious guru's that say that God created X years ago.

BTW, the dinosaurs died out ~65 million years ago, so proof of life goes further back than 16 mill.

In the bible, the animals were created first (GEN 1:20). Adam and Eve weren't even around yet. Adam didn't even show up till almost the end (Gen 1:27).

    Just trying to help. ;)

Sorry, I meant animals on the evolutionary timeline.

Some people estimate mammals were around 50 million years ago. And mammal precursors over 200 million years ago.

Evolution was even mentioned in the bible.

Bible believers, don't forget...the Earth was not created during the Bible's "seven days of creation". Gen 1:1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth." There could be millions of years between Gen 1:1 when God created the Earth, and Gen 1:3 when God started placing life on it.

Anyone listen to Bill Hicks. His hilarious one word question to the Creationist was "Dinosaur." Listen here but be warned delicate ears may hear colourful language.

On the flip side to this is Kent Hovind, a Creationist, who gives a good argument too. Listen here, but it's 2 and a half hours long. It had been years since I listened to Hicks,
and finding Hovind, reminded me slightly of him, both have a good delivery.

I found the second link a while back while searching Google video for "flashlight" believe it or not! :)

Yeah, but the question was not, when was the universe created. It was when was this world created, which I assume is to mean planet earth. 6k sounds about right to me ;)

Yeah, I heard him on XM last night. The guy is not funny. He also makes a bunch of mistakes in this theory which should be noted. He says that Christians believe the earth is 12,000 years old. That is not true, they believe it is 6,000 years old. He makes the claim "dinosaur", and claims the "Bible" makes no mention of them. Actually, it does. His entire comedy routine is completely flawed from the get go. If he were at least funny, he might be able to pull it off.
