As you know, Wordpress displays the whole post content on the home page, however, If you use Wordpress as CMS, and Portal News site, you want it to just show the Headline and the brief description or introduction and then " Read More" link below, so guys how can you do that in the home.php file of the theme ? any help would be appreciated thanks
You can do this by editing the "Main Index Template" (index.php) in your Wordpress admin and replacing the_content() with the_excerpt(). This will just display the title and the first 55 words of the post along with a read more link.
You could do it that way too but you will have to add the <!----more----> to every single post. By changing to the_excerpt(), this will be the default for every post.
I have done that on my Real Madrid. The title and brief introduction indeed show, but when i click on the article i just see the same not the full article ! whats wrong !. thanks in advance
Hey mike I just followed your advice and this does create homepage post excerpts, but there is no "read more" link to the full post. A visitor would have to click the title to go to the full post. How can I get the "read more" link at the bottom of each excerpt? I am using wordpress 2.2
