I've seen numerous of these examples and I'm at a stage where I'm considering buying one myself but I don't know which would appeal most to a visitor/ search engines and which would be easier to remember.

Basically, say you want to buy either "cheappresents.com" or "cheapresents.com" which one would you go for ?

    Go with the correct spelling.

cheappresents.com would be better for Search Engines and you wouldn't have to explain to everyone that only one "p" is in your url.

    the first one for sure.

the 2nd one is "pointless" IMHO.

This is one of the few times where a hypen may be the better choice. Most people find you via search engines anyway.

I wanted to register chessstrategy.something, but the triple s really turned me off. I know the search engines won't care but I think that it's just as important for visitors to know and easily recall your domain.

My advice: go with something that sounds right. Cheappresents.com isn't bad at all in my opinion. Besides, since you'll get most of your traffic from google, it doesn't really matter if visitors aren't 100% sure of your URL.

I would choose the correct spelling, just as most people would.

I would go with cheappresents. It doesn't matter how it looks on the browser. I'm sure not a lot will make a mistake typing cheappresents.com. If your url is cheapresents.com and you have cheap presents as the title then people may end up at cheappresents.com which by then would have been squatted on by someone.
