I have heard multiple things. Some people say use it once on the homepage. Others say just use it only once per page? What is the best way to use it in your experience? Just on the homepage, or once every page?
So if I have a <h1> tag on every page, with a different term, even if it is a similar term, then that is okay?
I hope I understand your question. Use the tag the way it was intended, as a header tag on the page if appropriate.
KC TAN has provided a good answer The h1 was designed to be used once per page as the main heading of the page so use it as such. Once per page and make it unique across every page of your site.
Dont intend to spam your post gamefray. But can i ask if there is any significance in doing that as said above using it on home page or every page. Thanks
Thanks guys. May I also ask if it is a good idea to use the other <h?> tags, and how often to use them as well?
Yes, using other Headers will help you to allocate specific content relevancy to your entire page. H1 is just like the main topic of your page, with H2 and H3 branching out to more specifics: <h1>SEO Techniques</h1> ..... <h2>White Hat SEO Techniques</h2> <h3>Text based navigation menu</h3> .... <h3>Utilizing META keywords and description</h3> ..... <h2>Black Hat SEO Techniques</h2> <h3>Keywords stuffing</h3> .... Code (markup):
Only use it once per page like the rest of them <h2>, <h3>, etc... And make sure that they go in descending order with <h1> the first to be used.
Once per page as already mentioned and then its ok to use other H tags, <h2>, <h3> more the once per page.
KC TAN hit the nail right on the head. Once per page for the top-level heading, and then as needed in descending order (always make sure you use at least two of them in the proper sequential order) for the second through sixth-level headings.
It is a good question IMO! Search engine is just like human. When we read a book, we glance through the Table of Contents before we know which part of the book is relevant to what we are looking for. Search Engine reads the Header tags so that they know what are the keywords that are being stressed on that particular page. It is not a big deal without the <H1> tag.. the search engine simply index the whole page without a supplementary understanding of what the page is about. It is just like reading a book without the Table of Contents.. you need to read through the whole book before you will know which parts are the relevant ones that you are searching for.
