When to switch to VPS?

    Hi there,

I'm currently using shared hosting packages, and doing okay. However, I was wondering when does one switch to a VPS? Why? Bandwidth? IP's?

    Thanks,
    dmi

Add CPU and resources usage to your list.

When you need root control to your server. Plus all that was previously listed.

I feel that it what has been mentioned plus actual dedicated resources (vs. you don't really know what you have with shared hosting) and the ability to install any software you like on the VPS (which does fall under root control of you server but I think is worthwhile to point out.)

Do switch to a non oversold and stable vps provider though. Changing from shared hosting to an oversold vps node is not going to improve performance and can make things even worse!

It all depends what you are using it for and if it's worth the cost.

    - When you think that shared hosting services is not as fast as you want for running your website

    - If you have some processing on your website, that needs to be secure.
