What is your general rule of thumb for how much traffic a site should have before you start to monetize it? I don't want to start advertising too early and stunt my growth, but I don't want to wait too long and miss out on money either. Is there any set number which you guys use? Or do you throw ads up as soon as you start a site?
anytime.. Adsense allow publishers to put ads on 0 traffic pages. There is no certain point regarding volume of traffic in their tos either.
Skits, honestly you will get mixed feedback about this question. Some people feel adding adsense to a new website isnt a great idea but some feel you should make that dollar from day 1. why loose it? There are always some questions webmaster should ask himself. Is my website good enuff that people willl be happy even with the ads? Am i offering something extra that people will re-visit? some people just don't take a risk to add adsense when the website is new and wait till they build enough traffic. Adding adsense at this stage might keep some of your readers away coz they feel you are now trying to make money from them. Honestly, being straight into the face of your readers and being very clear about your intention is the key to success. Don't hide something and disclose it later. Reps appreciated
I honestly waited,...but am kicking myself in the butt because i didnt put it on sooner. just be careful if you wait to to long
It really depends on what you are trying to do with your website. I had one site that started getting trickles of traffic, and I didn't bother putting Adsense on it since it wasn't going to be worth it. Three months later, after a huge redesign since the site started getting 200uniques/day, I figured it was time to christen the website with Adsense ads.
