One of my sites is an image hosting site, it's currently starting to grow at a decent rate, this month we added about 400 new members and averaging 20 new signups a day now. Right now we have about 1600 members, when would be a good time to start emailing them? I was thinking of using the email newsletter to run some promotions, try to encourage dead users to use the service again, and maybe even put in some affiliate offers. Should I wait until I have more members or the rate of new signups slows down a bit? Any advice for what I should put in the newsletter?
Start sending Now. Sending newsletters will keep up your appearences in your members lives and so you will probably get more and more views. It also confirms that you are alive and kicking, so your members will likely trust you more As for what to put in the email, it totally depends on what you want to achieve from the newsletter (I.e Sales or Views) and what your site is about
Start sending out ASAP but remember not to flood their emails every day, once a week is enuff. It depends what your site is about and the culture of your site, you may want to make it once a fortnight, use your judgement. The question is: How often do poeple want to get email from an image hosting site? You don't want to alienate your visitors. Would you be annoyed getting regular emails from such a site, how often would you prefer to hear from a site you are a member of?
Yeah I would go as far as to say once a month and offer good free stuff to start with, your going to have heaps of people unsubscibe so make sure you give stuff away or you will lose to many in my opinion. After a while you can increase to once a fortnight, be sure to give good content in the newsletter also.
You shouldn't be sending any newsletter at all unless they've opted in. Make sure you give existing members a chance to opt in easily, and then make opting in a part of registration or something... if you haven't already. Jenn
You should have an opt in list. But as long as you have permission, I would start immediately. No reason to wait on using the power of a newsletter. Just another tool in your arsenal. Tony
Well, when you're bussy you may send an email once per month. No matter how you do it, if they aren't opted in, don't forget to insert an un-subscribe link at the end of each page. Vladimir
